Oh I most definately agree. Human nature will tend to seek a comfort level. Important truths take us OUT of that comfort level.
I have found myself trying to explain to someone that belief is bankrupt if it is not centered on truth!
What good does it do you if what you 'believe' is not TRUE?
http://streetapologetics.com/2011/04/truth-more-important-than-faith/
Street Apologist: What do you think is more important? What you believe or what you believe is true?
Person: I think what you believe is most important.
Street Apologist: Does that really work in reality?
Person: Come again.
Street Apologist: If the bank teller tells you that you have no money, do you lean over the counter and say “look again, because I just believed a million dollars into the account.” ???
Person: I guess not.
Street Apologist: Further, if someone believed the holocaust never happened or that the world is currently flat or that 2+2=5 does that make it so?
Person: Ok, I see your point.
Street Apologist: Friend, what we believe doesn’t matter if it is not truth. What we believe ought to be in-line with what is true and a good place to start looking for that truth is the Man in history who claimed to be the truth! Jesus Christ! (Jn. 14:6)
THE TRUTH does not change, it is not dependent on what we believe. Most people feel it is outrageous to believe in God. In my life there was a time I was VERY UNCOMFORTABLE with the suggestion I was NOT right with God. Our society, the majority of Americans at one time, did not question the existence of God. Now it is 'not the accepted wisdom' to believein a Creator God or the need for a personal Savior.
There has to be absolute truth. There is no other explanation for the Universe suddenly just beginning, DNA being a coded language, the complexity of all life, even the most tiny one celled ameoba with out an intelligence behind it, God. And none of it would continue on as it has without certain things being true. We don't wake up every morning to a new set of scientific laws. E=Mc2 is always TRUE. It sounds outrageous to the 'modern' mind. It is 'uncomfortable' to the human will. And it has been 'attacked as being unwise' to believe in the absolute truth of God.
But at some point in every life, people have to face what is true despite what they believe to be true. I trust that God is that truth.

Because people challenged the accepted truth. But the world consistently, even after thousands of years of seeing this principle play out still try to silence those who seek the truth. Why is that?
I see it this way; Copernicus had to stand up to the organized church. Scientific fact against religious authority.
NOW we see the opposite; Scientific authority against religious belief. It begins as ridicule, then to oppression of individual, and will ultimately lead to those in authority persecuting those who question them. Just as it did in past history.
Sort of like the names have changed but the game remains the same. The suppression of ideas, the suppression of honest debate, all this is designed to put control of ideas in the hands of SOMEBODY other than the individual seeker of truth.

I most definitely agree with this statement. Those who think out of the box are most often mocked and condemned. Witness Galileo in support of Copernicus, Martin Luther, among others.
But, the most important truth is the Bible, the Word of God Himself and the foundational, absolute, everlasting, living truth, as exemplified by Jesus, as Truth Incarnate.
When we reject this truth, we have nothing to go on and leave ourselves open to nothing but lies and deception.
It is, in fact, our Creator who gives us the wisdom, creativity, and strength to discern, discover, and fight for truth

C'est vrai! What you say is true. Love is the "great commandment" and God is Love.

That is well said. Unfortunately people have taken the Bible and have manipulated the truths of Gods words into truths that fit their individual agendas hence the religions around the world and the fanaticisms these religions foster. If everyone would put these individual agendas aside and truly seek the truth of God's words one would find that the only true religion is Love.

I do agree! Truth is a very interesting concept, of which many people do not conceive. The truth cannot be written in stone because Truth continuously evolves. There was a time when people believed the world was flat. This was the truth at that time. But later, a round world became the truth. When I was growing up Catholics could not eat meat on Friday. Now the truth is, its ok for a Catholic to eat meat 7 days a week. Some people believe the Bible is God's Truth. Truthfully speaking, is there such a thing as a Truth?

I agree with this quote. The greatest heroes often start as criminals and rebels. This is how we grow. We do the best with the ideas we have, but once someone gets another, conflicting idea in their head, they have to fight long and hard to get others to realize. Who said this? I find it very interesting and I don't want to forget it.

Yes, indeed. Truths, whether internal or external, are usually very difficult to stare in the eye. Back in the Middle Ages, nobody wanted to believe the earth was round. It was just too uncomfortable to think that people on the other side of the earth might fall off (ha ha)
Internal truths about oneself are even more difficult to face, eg admission of one's own failings or weaknesses. It needs real courage to do that.

... and they end as officially spoken out by someone else who hasn't come up with it first. But in fact they neither begin nor end. They are always there. The quotation sounds similar to one that is attributed to M. Planck:
A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.

That is partially true and was more true in the past a good example of this is coppernicus discovering that the earth orbited the sun going against the accepted wisdom that the earth was at the center of the universe.Modern science is less accepting of conventional wisdom as it is based on trying to prove or disprove different theories. The big problem now i complacency because we know so much or at least think we know so much normal people are less likely to think or enquire about the big questions of how the universe works
