All Filipinos born before 1946 are Americans?

This article in the Philippine Star is really intereesting.
My mother is still alive today, having been born in 1940. And I often stare at her birth certificate where at the top it reads "Commonwealth". The word "US" is omitted but it's obvious: this was US territory and therefore all Filipinos are still Americans by law today.
www.manilamail.com/archive/mar2004/04mar16.htm
According to this article, there were 2 classes of US citizens before 1946: 1) the original US Citizens (Natives) and 2) The US Nationals (All of us Filipinos). All Filipinos enjoyed the same privileges as US Citizens, except the right to vote in US Govt elections. This includes unlimited travel and stay in the US Mainland, I assume, because that's our right as US Nationals. That's good enough for me, even if I can't vote, if I lived at that time.
But in 1946, all Filipinos who didn't upgrade their status to "US Citizen" suddenly became "Aliens". So all our parents lost all their Stateside privileges.
That's not fair. Why would Congress strip all Filipinos of US National privileges without their knowledge?
Majority of Filipinos before 1946 never asked for independence; Only our selfish Filipino politicians did.
And there is a law somewhere in the US Constitution that it is illegal for a territory to break away from the Union.
In 1898, the US acquired Hawaii, The Philippines, Guam and Puerto Rico from Spain. Among these, who was left behind and kicked out of the Union? It's the Philippines that's who, while the rest of them still enjoy their tax-free US territory status today. Ever wonder why Puerto Rico is not in a hurry to become a State? Isn't this a case of favoritism?
We're stratigically located near China, Japan and other Asian powers. We're supposed to be where Hawaii is now. If Hawaii breaks away from the Union, that's against US Law. What about us? That 1946 Philippine Independence is also against US Law.
And now that the bases in Japan were damaged by the tsunami and the bases in Guam are still not ready, now the US needs the bases back in the Philippines?
Personally, I want all the US Bases back: Clark, Sangley Point, Subic. I want my FEN Channel 17 back. I want the Americans back to rule the Philippines like heaven, the way they did before 1946. The Philippines was second to Japan then, and our grandparents were full of stories of how the Americans and the Filipinos worked so well together. Filipinos are disciplined and law abiding whenever the Americans are around. The Americans could turn Ermita into a Las Vegas and this would become a beach paradise like Hawaii.
There should be a referendum/plebiscite asking Filipinos if they want this country to become a US territory once again.
The Americans are the only hope left for this country. They may not be as high tech as Japan, but they can make the Philippines prosper again, because they did it before right?
If you really like this option, maybe you could start your own hype: in facebook, twitter, etc. Write to the US Embassy, The White House, ABS-CBN news, GMA, The Inquirer, The Bulletin, The Philippine Star. Then maybe if the hype grows so big like a Mari Mar craze, then maybe the US Congress will notice. Nothing will happen if we just sit here typing about it.
This may seem unpatriotic, but this is the only way out of our current mess. Philippine Independence for the past 65 years has not worked and it never will. All we have are high Meralco bills and other things that stink. And now we have the Spratly issue. Once again we need America, like we did during the Ondoy disaster 2 yrs ago.
Man, all we need is President Obama to declare on CNN "I hereby declare that Philippine Independence in 1946 is null and void and unconstitutional. Therefore, the Philippines is still a US territory today, as it was, since 1898. I hereby order the US Govt to take over Malacanang tomorrow. Filipinos, the injustice done to you in 1946 has been undone. You are once again US Nationals/Citizens. Welcome back home to America. Clap Clap Clap"
If this happens, there is nothing the United Nations nor Malacanang can do to resist.
Yes there would be a mini Filipino-American war to be lead by the street protesters. But after that, there will be peace and everyone will accept the new govt.

you must be living in the dream land? you want to live an american dream, then go there! because i'd rather die fighting for my country like the ones before me rather than singing the star spangled banner!. it's hard to believe WEAK minded still exist today, the difference is that NPA, MILF and MNLF will have more influence better than ever against the US imperialist

NO, WE CAN NEVER GET IT BACK. when I heard the last presidencial debate, they hate the fact that there's presence of their military in the middle east, they want their soldiers at home soon.
I will NEVER SING the star spangled banner and I'd rather join the rebels, than normally accepting the US statehood.

Hi there.
We had that American Dream, before 1946. It wasn't even a dream; it was reality. And we lost it all :(
If there is a chance to get it all back, why not right? I know it's a shot in the dark. The US Congress is against it. The US Gov't doesn't want to talk about it.
But still I and everyone want a better Philippines: a much better Philippines than the what we have today.
And if the American Dream is right here in Manila, Cebu, and all over, then we don't have to kill ourselves lining up for years at the US Embassy and then leaving our families. We'd have it all right here.
In the end, if the economy prospers under America, we'd have less to grumble about.
That's why there's a need for a referendum, so that this discussion about Philippine USA Statehood will end once and for all.
If the referendum's verdict is "Filipinos don't want to be part of the USA", then that's it. I will accept the will of the majority.
But if the verdict is the other way around, then I'll be more happy, obviously :)
The next question is: Who among our senators and congressmen will initiate a USA Statehood referendum?

i am not sure whether you are serious or not. i am so sure that what you think will never happen. we will never be part of the US because majority do not want to. even if you have referendum to which i think is absurd, still i am confident that many of the filipinos and filipinas will vote against becoming a part of the US. second, the US does not want additional burden since it is financially drained and bankrupt. our problems will not be solved by being part of the US. we need to tackle these problems by ourselves.

Hi. Yes I'm serious. I admit it's an impossible dream right now, because indeed majority of our politicians are against it.
But if there is a chance that the American Dream might come true, like it did before 1946, then there is hope, for me and those who still believe that the Philippines can be a better place than what it is today.
And we're not a burden to the US. The Filipino-American partnership worked before, and it will work again.
All we need is that referendum or a signature campaign. I will be the first to sign :)
