yes you should bypass the block on the terminal and surf on youtube...normally to do that is not illegal in office so if you try and you commit a mistake you will be fired...it is not possible trying to enter as a root on a factory system or bypassing locks that the owner decided to add to their network!!

it is not a nightmare. In the first place you are being paid for the work that you have done (or hours that you have stayed) in the office. So if you do other stuff like youtube or the likes, then you are stealing your employer's money. Put everything in their proper time.

I am sorry i wont be able to help you with this. I am not vry familiar a to how this would be shown using proxies. I think your company does have their reasons why they shoukd ban the site... Its working hoirs and well we are not expected to view videos and or update facebook right? Good luck to you though

I would say they are right to Stop you from wasting time while they are paying you. Work computers are met for one thing and that isn't playing games or watching Youtube videos its for doing work unless the company you work for has a Youtube Channel and you are incharge of uploading things or keeping it updated then you have no reason to be on youtube while at work. If you are on break then well you can use most modern smart phones to get youtube to play but I wouldn't use a work phone. I would only use your own smart phone.
Also if you found a way around it. That could get you in trouble because your IT people can still track you to the proxy that you use and most modern companies have a tracker for the cookies you get so they will know what website you went to even if you use a proxy.

Yeah, They have banned if for limiting excess use of it. But some of our work is like research and it will need all the resources like videos, books, internet, blogs, twitter, facebook.. It might sound funny, but you won't believe how quality help you can get from this social websites.
I talked to IT guys and they allowed one private proxy for me only.
So Cheers !

I agree with 3honor. If you are wasting time and cant be responsible with doing your work, then of course your employer should be allowed to block you. It can also be a security breech if you are being irresponsible with the sites you are going on. If things were not blocked, you could download a virus that could harm your work's infrastructure, or share sensitive information.
I work as an IT technician and you would not believe the amount of time people spend procrastinating at work when the proxy wall is turned off. Try to add up how many hours work is lost at your work if everyone takes just 20 minutes a day on youtube or similar sites. If you genuinely need to access a site for work purposes, have a word with your technician and they will help you find a solution.
Do not use proxies. These can easily be set up to steal your information such as passwords.
