I'm not going to rant about the Food Nazis, I've done that Way too often. my question is what is your reaction to all these studies? Even since i was 13 I was ready to die of Anything or nothing. so whenever there is a study done saying what I like to eat or drink is going to kill me, I would say Good! Come get me! and it would make me want to do it more. Now that I'm not suicidal I Still say Ok, I have to die of something! How do you react when you hear that a beloved activity is bad for you?

I'm not a "fanatic" but I do choose to eat at least healthier now. I've written quite a number of articles relating to dangerous effects not so much of certain foods, but certain ingredients IN the foods (kind of a difference).
I can't help wondering if many of our now health issues are related to foods we ate while growing up. For instance, growing up many of us were NOT aware that when we ate chicken or beef or dairy that it was pumped up with antibiotics, hormones, etc.--Ergo--is that why over the years they've had to develop stronger antibiotics due to the old ones not working, since we've been getting our "doses" of antibiotics via chicken, beef and dairy? Is that why, even now children are reaching puberty at earlier and earlier ages due to the growth hormones in those "altered" foods?
LOL--I haven't drunk in soda in decades...no particular reason, just a preference, and I used to be a Coca cola junkie during high school and college...to my mind the worse soda though to drink are the diet ones...oy vey...anything with sugar substitutes is a real no-no for me...and anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup is a no-no for me as well...if you start reading all the issues with Aspartame or HFCS you'd never eat or drink anything with those ingredients either (BTW--part of the process to make up HFCS is to use mercury)
Yeah I understand where you're at, and yes we all die no matter what, I just prefer to eat more healthier if and where possible

I'm by no means a vegetarian or vegan, though am cutting down on meats and not for health issues but my animal activist humane issues (I get organically raised meat rather than farm factory raised)--believe me I'm not eating just veggies and like my meat still too. My mother too took me to a doc when I was a kid since I continued to be rail thin and she was concerned something was wrong..wasn't...just genetics. The family joke was that my father's side of the family could eat a whole cow at every meal and not gain weight, well I obviously inherited that trait (much to my mother's jealousy I think since she was always overweight)
I'm not saying you shouldn't eat what you like, but just why not go a tad bit more healthier? Since I don't drink sodas, I drink (yes water), juices, teas--if you want a bit of a healthier alternative to soda make you're own...get juice (orange, grape, fruit punch, whatever) and seltzer..add one part juice to one part seltzer and instant soda--that way you avoid a lot of artificial chemicals

No thanks. I like artificial chemicals in soda.I have chosen to eat what I like as long as I can , it is the cheapest and it tastes good. If I die , at least I'll die well fed.

You mean the Coke (Diet Coke nowadays) that I have been drinking all day, even for breakfast since I was in high school is going to kill me?!
My reaction is the same as any guy's reaction on things that we don't like. Selective hearing (or selective reading)!

My hubby is diabetic so he shouldn't be drinking soda. I don't even like soda. As for everyone else, the world needs to butt out and mind it's own business.

I love soda and I hate both water and milk. I like apple juice but it doesn't like me, I get heartburn.Too much Orange juice leaves my stomach feeling acidic.

Great discussion! Personally, I decided decades ago that whatever they say is going to kill me today they'll decide is going to save my life somewhere down the road and vice versa! How many things can you think of that were so "bad" for us for years and then suddenly it was discovered they were actually GOOD for us and could, in fact, prevent one deadly disease or condition or another?
For me, the key is moderation. I used to drink a lot of soda, specifically Pepsi, but recently I decided to try to avoid it for the simple reason that I'm trying to lose weight. However, that doesn't mean I don't have a soda when I go out to eat or if I'm at a barbecue or sporting event or something like that. I just don't drink it by the case anymore!
My mom smoked until she was 78 years old; when she passed away she had COPD so some may say "smoking killed her' but she was a few weeks away from turning 92. I know "something" - or things - will eventually kill me but if it waits until I'm in my nineties I'm not going to stress over it too much...lol!

That's how I think too.. SOMETHING is going to kill you eventually. If it's not soda, then it's something else.. or 10 other things.

I will ignore this information. I always think that the balanced diet is the best. Namely I don't think eating vegetables only will make you healthy. You also need the meats. I like to eat in McDonald's, Pizza Hut and so on. I think it is delicious. If I don't eat it all the time, it will be alright. The eating is enjoyable and important for our lives. Perhaps it seems to be healthy you eat steamed food in your whole life, but isn't it boring without baked, fried etc. food? If people say that chocolate is not good, then please pass it for me. I think I feel good after eating it:)

I don't buy into alot of these things...first it was bacon was supposed to kill you..then they said you had to eat like two tons of it for it to do this..then eggs were bad for you...now they are good! Just think of what they do for the companies that are selling things like oatmeal! I bet after they told everyone that oatmeal lowers cholestral that their sales went way up!

What the Food Nazis forget is that people have been eating and drinking unhealthily, plus smoking, for centuries and they have all done fine....if they hadn't have done fine, human life on earth would now be extinct. I feel these Food Nazis have a free-floating neurosis and are projecting that neurosis onto the rest of us with their urge to control and dictate to other people how they should be living their lives. I'd urge them to chill out, relax and just let it be...and take a que sera attitude.
You're right...we all have to die of something, and personally I'd much rather live a shorter, yet more satisfying and happier life than a long one which has been full of neurosis, misery and self-denial.
When I hear something I enjoy is bad for me, I simply smile and carry on down my own path as I don't think it's me who has the problem. It's also interesting to note that a lot of health freaks don't seem to live to a ripe old age, yet others who have abused their bodies relentlessly, carry on well into a handsome dotage.
The way I see it is life is as long as it is and although I don't want to curtail mine, I don't want to give up the things I enjoy in order to extend it.

You don't want to believe everything you hear. Now they say that some things are rich in nutrition which are beneficial to your body; now they say those do harm to you.It lets us be unable to agree which is right. If we all believe what they said,we will have nothing to eat.
