Umm, medical students aren't nerds. Anyone who's been to a University with med students knows they're completely insane: they work incredibly hard and party like there's no tomorrow! Nerds are scientists (pure science), mathematicians and computer people (among others). Like me. Of course, these days it's very different being a nerd or a geek. It's a lot easier than it was 20-30 years ago when you could guarantee you'd be bullied, abused, exiled, ridiculed and all those other things that make it so much fun to be more successful than the cool crowd and turn the tables.

They're VERY focussed individuals. Maybe too focussed on their studies for other people. One of my oldest friends is a med student, so it's not always a given. Maybe it's just you? (That's a joke. )

That's not my first thought. Actually at the place I work at, almost all of the young girls are going into medicine/pharmacy. I definitely wouldn't label any of them nerds. They are well.. just regular University students, they want a good job, they party every now and then.. But NONE of them are nerds, they aren't even the smartest people I know. So I definitely don't judge anyone based on the course they are taking.

No, my first thought is not that they are a nerd. After all, I am a non-traditional college student, and most of my friends are writers. It is hard to shout NERD! and not have that group point right back at you. No, my first thought is that either they are a much more caring person than I am, or they are in it for the money. And I will ask them which one it is. If it is money, I will try to convince them that it is not necessarily a pleasant career choice. If it is caring, then I am pleased to know them. For the record, at this point I know two people in nursing school (one is furthering her education, she has worked as a nurse for ten years already), and one person who is studying to be a doctor.

I wouldn't classify myself as a nerd. Although I am a major geek about some things (Star Wars, Physics, video games). I only know like two other pre-med people right now and I'm really hoping they change majors before they get to medical school, because those people would make horrible doctors. I think you're getting nerd from them studying all the time.. but I studied like mad even when I didn't want to go into the medical profession. Who knows.
