No adoption agencies on my GPS

So last night R was working late and I took the kids to dinner and father's day shopping. They ended up agreeing on Home Town Buffet, and away we went.
Other than Cary wasting food and insisting that Jello was a fruit, and some total stranger telling Dearra not to use so much ketchup, dinner was fairly uneventful.
The fun started when we got to the card store.
First they wanted to look at everything else but cards. And then they saw the musical cards, and wouldn't focus on anything else. Since R's birthday is coming up, and my nephew's too, I did let them get some birthday cards.
But I kept trying to get them to focus on Father's day. Cary kept looking at the musical cards. There were some for Father's day that allow you to record a message. Dearra thought that was stupid, and loudly let us all know. In fact, while Cary played (seems like) every single musical card in the place, Dearra loudly let us know what she thought about pretty much everything.
Until one of the women looking at the cards told her she was too loud, and that she couldn't read with all the noise. So Dearra said sorry, and they simmered down a bit. But then she started looking at cards, and had to complain about how all the cards from girls were too girly, and the woman looked at her, told her she could take one of the boy cards and white out "son" and replace it with "daughter".
Well we finally escaped the card store with father's day cards for R and my dad, and birthday cards for R and my nephew.
And as soon as we got out of there Dearra started. "I hate old people. My gosh, no brain cells if she can't read with a little noise. What is this, a library? And white out part of the card? How cheesy!" All the way down the mall...
And meanwhile the twins are pushing each other, and Dearra and Cary are going at it.
We walk into a gift shop and Dearra says, "it's all girl stuff". But then we see some wallets, and R does need a wallet. Not enough of a selection though, so we head down to Sears.
And that's when they see the escalators. They want to ride up just once. So we go upstairs, see that there's nothing, go back down and locate the wallets. And we pick one out, and while I'm in line they want to go up the escalator one more time. So I say, "fine go up and then down and come right back here." Big mistake. They start going up the down escalator and down the up and just basically goofing around. But before I can go get them, an employee tells them to stop and they come back. Long wait, only one cashier, so Naomi gets tired and wants to sit down. Finally we pay and they're poking each other and pushing each other and getting in each other's faces.
Halfway back down the mall, we sit for a bit, and then I go into See's to pick up a box of chocolate. The lady gives me and Dearra a sample, and Cary comes over and tries to poach mine. Dearra snatches it back from him, and gives me a lecture about how I let him have everything he wants. The lady say no problem, and gets another one for him.
Back down the rest of the mall to the car, and Cary and Naomi are trying karate moves on each other as we walk. I turn around and Cary's on the ground. He had made the mistake of trying a move on Dearra, and she tossed him to the ground. So all the way to the car they are glaring at each other, and telling each other to jump off a cliff.
We get back to the car, and I search the GPS. Nope. No adoption agencies listed. Darn.

Actually, I remember one night when my first son was five weeks old and wouldn't stop crying when I would gladly have swopped him for his weight in goldI had him in one hand and Dr. Spock in the other. In my frantic state then I had the thought that he was doing it on purpose It just shows you what sleep deprivation will do to a person I was alone in the house in town and my husband was on the farm and I joined in and cried along with him:(

I will take Cary, I think. Teen girls are not my favorite. My daughter was not allowed to act like a teen girl, did not want to either.

That sounds like a really difficult evening. I would have offered to come back by myself. I know it is hard when you have three. Someone is always a target of the other two or someone is always picking on someone else. They feed off of each other and make their parent want to crawl under the nearest paving stone, or drop them off at the hospital.

hi dawn just thinking kids say really awful things. I bet
they would have been shocked if you had repeated "fall off a cliff" to one or both of them or would they have just said"Oh MOm." lol

I recall one occasion when p1kelet was a baby and in a sling that was strapped to me. We were in Birmingham (England) in a large department store when she decided to cry. Not your common or garden "waaa" but an earth shaking screeching WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA etc. I descended an escalator desperate to lose this banshee that was now threratening what little sanity I had left. Ascending on the opposite escaltor was a lady. As she approached she said "Oh, poor little thing". I offered to give the harpie to her. She looked highly shocked and passed me by en route to china, electronics and haberdashery. I don't think that she worked for an adoption agency. If she had done I'd just be getting out of jail now!

I would be in a nut ward by the time you got to See's. My favorite cand store I might add. last time I ordered some it was old and I was dissapointed. I wrote them an email about it and haven't heard back from them. So such is life. I think we as parents start counting the days until college and the empty nest thing is just a hoax. I am glad I don't have much to do with kids stuff anymore. I just in when my daughter needs help but I have done my part. I raised her and then took guardianship of her daughter for a dozen years. I think I have done my part. Good luck Mom on keeping your sanity.

Quite a handfull you have. Were they just acting out because of the home situation or do they always act that way? I raised mine in different times and was a very strict Mom, behave or never go with me again. And they believed it, when they were 2, 3, and 4. After 10 they didn't want to come along anyway, Mom you are no fun. I'm not sure I miss out on much. Blessings

Just can't take them anywhere, huh?
It's the fault of all that ketchup...
By the by... I used to love going up the down escalator, too (when I was about 11).

Wow, I guess I have no reason to complain, other than it seems you handle yourself better than I would..My two boys, (one of which is suppose to be 25, but acts like a 10 y/o) have gotten on my nerves twice this week..I was starting to wonder if there was a program where the child works for their room and board and I can get rid of one or both for the summer...lol

Um, an hour ago, my comment would not have been obnoxious, I was totally serious..There must be something in the air that are making the kids so annoying right now..

My daughter to this day, still goes up and down the wrong way on escalators! One day when my oldest (now 22) was about 6 or so, I took him to the mall. We were living just over the border from Illinois in Wisconsin and we drove up to Milwaukee to go to the mall up there. I believe it was around Christmas time because I do remember the mall was PACKED. My son, like my other two loved to go up and down the escalator. I was paying for my items at the cashier which was right by the escalators. Well before I realized what he was doing, he hit the emergency stop on the escalator and the entire escalator just stopped! I was so embarrassed and of course Nick was so shocked that he ran and hid in a rack of clothes. The cashier who was a young girl started to laugh and I didn't miss a beat and responded "don't these mother's keep an eye on their children?". I paid for my purchases and walked around the register grabbed Nick out of the clothes rack and never looked back! Don't you just love how kids have a way of embarrassing you on a daily basis!!!

NEVER a dull moment with the kids, eh? We have all sorts of adventures at the mall too. As my oldest has been in school, it's just been me and baby boy hanging out at the mall - and it's been TONS easier with just us two alone. My daughter is the one who is always being rowdy and loud (can't sit still for nothin'), so now that she will be out of school, trips to the mall will be quite interesting. OMG - she drives Hallmark nuts with those musical cards - she has to hear every single one of them - ha ha!!

Fascinating. I enjoy to see how others are dealing with their children. It reinforces my conviction that I have been very happy to have not had any children : too much exhausting. The problem with children is that they live home when they begin to be really interesting, though I find Dearra already interesting in her comments.

As I read the whole post and was so enlightened by all the noise I kept wondering, hmm adoption agency. lol then it finally hit me.
That is kids for you and take them out for a fun day and they certainly spice up the moment. Maybe just a bit confused with what is going on and as usual kids do like attention.
Bless you though, I can't say I really miss the excitement. Awh okay I would give anything for a little bit of it.

Wow it sounds like you had an eventfull and handfull even last night. But you have to admit they do make it them fun once in a while, what would you do without them.
Actually Dearra reminds me of me when I was younger, I had a smart mouth on me and that used to upset my mom at times and sometimes it even made her laugh.

A lot of times it makes me laugh. Her observations are usually so right on. But sometimes the constant complaining can be pretty annoying.

Would you really want to get rid of them that bad? I have seen situations like this in the stores from time to time, and usually having no parents keeping an eye on them, and it makes me wonder. At least you were with your kids, and even though they got a little noisy and was asked by an employee to stop, you survived.

Ms D is a trip! She is an old soul. She has a great B.S. detector. What's with a stranger , a Food Nazi no doubt, telling her she was using too much ketchup! I would have just gave them that F@ck Off look. As for everything being too girly? She sounds like me! If my dad were alive I would have been getting the humor , bawdy humor knowing me, for Dad. He was a gentleman. I take after my mom, A Real Broad, with a mouth of a sailor! So I would have tried to make him blush or laugh. Not cry or think how girly I am not!

LOL.. As I'm reading this I'm thinking to myself "Mine would have been knocked upside the head for all this".
My kids are generally very well behaved in public.. they learned a long time ago not to test my patience. Anytime they do start to act up I tell them "I have no problem smacking you right here in the middle of this store for the whole world to see." I've never had to.. and honestly I don't want to because people are so touchy about that these days and probably would turn me in for child abuse if they saw it.. but telling them I'll do it is usually enough to get them in line again.

Hey dawny! Thanks for giving me a very much needed laugh!
Sorry it came at your expense though! I don't honestly know how the
hell you do it. That is quite a "brood" you've got yourself there! I
totally would never be able to have the patience at this point in my
life to put with such young ones. I give you alot of credit because
I know how hard it is to have teens and pre-teens! They certainly test
your patience and your "last nerve". You really are one hellofa great
Mom and they have no idea how grateful they should be. They will figure
it out and one day actually appreciate how "cool" a Mom you are!
Sending you lots of Love, and Strength and Hugs, Leslie/Opalem]thumbup[/em]

Cary reminds me of my own "bro" (RIP) when he was his age. He was
already a "demon spawn"~ We were 3 years apart, but he was a .
Loved him anyway and really miss him. I just think most boys are "that way"
so good luck and have patience cause you're going to need them!

My last came after a miscarriage brought on by an ectopic pregnancy that the doctor said had scarred my remaining tube so bad I didn't have to worry about getting pregnant anymore. LIE
When I came into his office saying I WAS PREGNANT again, he laughed at me and said NO WAY...when he came back after the test results, shaking his head and smirking....he said, you have to be the MOST FERTILE woman on the face of the earth! I did not smile.
BUT she is my pride and joy and makes me think God does give us what we need whether we think we need it or not.

I had that same feeling last night!
We had dinner at a friend's house and it was a bit late when we started home. The little one was already a bit grouchy because he wasn't able to take his afternoon nap, and the big one was grouchy too because he hadn't finish playing whatever level it was in Plants vs. Zombies with my friend's kid.
Amidst all the whining in the car, an adoption agency popped into my head.
