It can be both, depending on how we look at it. Being a perfectionist, they always make sure they put in their best effort in everything they do, including their partners. That's the professional side of them, and they use their time wisely. Negative side of it is causing unncecessary stress for people around them, especially if one is a boss. When people are not on the same wavelength like them, there are bound to be frictions.

When one conceived and pursue things to be always perfect that's perfectionism positive on its stance but when one pursue perfection according to his will without considering other people that stance is negative. So perfectionism depends on the nature of one's motive. So perfectionism can be negative or positive. When there is light there is also darkness.

I would consider it a negative thing. It is not healthy to be so concerned with everything going just as we wish. Nothing is perfect and we shouldn't expect it to be. When we do, we create a lot of stress for ourselves and for those around us. Of course we should do our best, and it is okay to expect others to do their best too, but when the best possible is not perfect, we need to accept that.

I don't think it could be one or the other, I think it has to be a combination. I'm not a fan of things being "perfect." I have a way I like things, but it is no where near perfect. If someone strives for perfectionism, it can really help them get places in life, where as at the same time it can be destructive.

my mother was a perfectionist. Nothing I could ever do was good enough in her eyes and everything could have done better, quicker neater or whatever. I really have to be careful to not fall into that trap myself. I try to avoid perfectionist behaviour and really have my guard up regarding this.
