Annulment is a legal process to obtain a verdict that such marriage was invalid even from the very beginning. This means that the court will assume that a legal marriage had not taken place. It has to be filed within a specific time after the issuance of a marriage certificate. On the other hand, divorce is a legal procedure for ending a valid marriage. Divorce petition can be filed at any point of time.

Annulment is done when the marriage has not been 'consumated'. Divorce happens after the marriage has been 'consumated'.

Annulment can also happen if one party defrauded the other in some way. Lied to get the other to agree to marry.

The way I understand it is that divorce is ending the marriage and an annulment is as if the marriage never happened. So in an annulment, there would be no alimony or anything like that.

I think there's little difference between the two. Both are meant to separate wife and husband and dissolving of marriage vows. While the annulment do not ask for alimony money and at the first day of marriage, everything is wrong, that both couples have disagreement issues but still proceeded to be wed like both are irresponsible and have no ability to perform the functions of a wife or husband or have crank minds and insane while divorce, wife or the hubby can collect money and still recognize marriage as valid but the wife and husband just called it quits and agree to make their marriage vows invalid in accordance with the man made guidelines and laws. I supposed we have to choose one, divorce or annulment when love has turn sour.

Annulment and divorce are both dissolution of marriage. In annulment, the marriage is voidable meaning it is valid until annulled. There are reasons why marriage is voidable, among these reasons are as follows: the marriage has not been consummated meaning the couple has not performed all the requisites of marriage, psychological incapacity of any of the party, when the woman has been pregnant from another man before the solemnization of marriage and the same was not known by the husband, homosexuality on the part of either party which was not known by the other party,etc.. Whereas in divorce, there was really a valid marriage only the parties wanted it to be dissolved. I don't know its grounds because we have no divorce law in the Philippines.

My understanding is that an annulment basically erases it from your record. Where as divorce still has it on record.
