Do you check before posting a discussion?

Hi,
I was thinking about this the past couple of days. Every time I come up with a question and I decide to initiate a discussion about it the search shows me that the same discussion exists already. So I just read the results and I find an answer.
So my question is this. Do you check up with the search the topic you want to discuss here or you just post it? Well yes, there may be other people joining the conversation but still I don't think you may have a lot of replies. What do you think about it?

Honestly, I don't check other postings first. When I think of something I want to discuss, I just start a discussion about it. But, if I already know that same discussion exists (without prior searching, I mean), I'd just join in the fun.

Hahaha! Agree! Now, I just try to enjoy myself as I respond to your discussions and mine, as well. There are so many open topics here, actually. One day is not enough to check them all out.

WELCOME TO MYLOT!!!
myLot Guidelines state that we are to check via search if a discussion already exists, so YES I do the search before starting a discussion. That way we don't end up with thousands of the "same" discussion on any given day!!!

Though I do not start very many discussions, I do make it a point to check. I also doubt that the type I do start can be repeated but we all have similar thoughts at one point or another so it is advisable to always check first.
Some members say that at times their discussions get deleted and they did not understand why because they checked for a duplicate before posting. Sometimes what happens is that many do not tag and or properly tag their discussions and the search cannot find a discussion if it is not tagged, so thought I remind her too.
By the way I see you are new so a very warm welcome to you.

Hi hardworkinggirl. Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I'm so happy I've discovered myLot especially because of people like you. Thanks for being so kind.
Yes, I also don't start so many discussions but I do try to answer friends' discussions as much as I can :). But sometimes I feel so busy with searching and answering and blogging and.... etc., that I was thinking the other day what would be if I was working :D. Anyway, it's nice to be here. Have a great time!!! :)

This is why I am not creating any other discussion at the moment. I don't want to duplicate a previous or running thread by creating it again. It should be the responsibility of us users to check and survey first if the topic of our idea is already available or not. This will help produce other ideas and prevent idea copying or similar idea overload. But some topics can be outdated through time. I believe that this topics can be recycled over and be updated during the course of time.

I am a newbie at mylot so I still have to figure out how everything works. I use the search box to look for topics I am interested in and also find answers to my questions. But the results which are shown are discussions from a long time ago. Most of the time the discussions are older than 3 months. I found some which are older than 3 years. So why should I reply to a discussion that has ended 3 years ago?

Welcome to myLot :).
Yes, you're completely right. It happens to me as well but I usually find the answers I'm looking for so that's why I don't see a point to start a discussion again. Unless there is still something unclear then I move on to the next discussion. But you are right that sometimes you need to start the discussion again because the trends are changing with months sometimes what about years. Thanks :).
