Well, since many individuals here enjoy talking about politics and seem to be passionate about politics, I was curious to here some individual perceptions of politics. My definition of politics is - "Politics is the Art of Who Gets what and When do they get it. By the "what" I mean "Tax Dollars." It is about the politician positioning him/herself into the position to control the most Tax Dollars. I am curious to hear what mylotters think about this definition.

I have alway said that religion was how man governed himself, and politics was how he governed everyone else. I wish your definition was not closer to the truth than mine. It shouldn't be about tax dollars. It should be about preserving and protecting the rights of the people as outlined in the Bill of Rights, and it should be about operating government by the Constitution. I am attempting to view all I can on just HOW ITS SUPPOSE TO WORK, instead of how it does work. Then find the one candidate who comes closest to that standard.

Well, that definition i got on the first day of my Introduction to Politics class. My Professor at the time sat on the New York City Council (Councilman). He pointed out that the bottom line is that each position of the politicians provides them with the oportunity of determining where allocated resources (Tax Dollars) are spent. Start from district leaders, borough presidents, the mayor, The Governor, congressmen, senators, and the president etc... I believe it was John Locke that said "Government is a necessary Evil." Politicians have made it Hell. I believe that when people start out in politics, they do it with the best intentions but when they are faced with the realities, they realize what the power of money can do. I like to think of it as "If you lay down with dogs, your gonna get fleas."

John Locke was right. Most do start out with good intentions. Power corrupts, you know the rest of the quote. So, the solution is to limit power? Imagine that.
