Do you prefer to start a discussion, or to respond to one?

Hi guys,
was thinking, do you prefer to start a discussion, or to respond to one? I think that starting one is nice as you can get other people's opinions on things which will be directly related to what you are thinking about or want to know, instead of having to search for other discussions which are similar to what you want to start one on.
However, I think that it can also be nice to respond to someone else's, as it is nice to help others sometimes, and a response to something which someone else is deeply thinking about could really help them, and make them feel good or help them out in life.
I think that overall, I prefer to comment on other peoples discussions, but I like both, what is it for you?

Hi mightyreds7, you know i don't have any preference wether to start or to respond. I have my added my interests in here so it's easy to find topics that i wanna respond to. Those interests of mine are the things that i like so whenever i know that there is a started discussion in one of my interests, i go there and check it and respond to it, right there and then. That simple that I have fun doing that! Just keep on talking, that is. Hehehe!

Yeah, I usually just browse the sections for my interests when I want to respond, as I usually find something which interests my quite quickly when I do that, and then I respond.
It seems that people are responding more than starting, as you would expect as most discussions get some responses, and some have many, but even so, I thought that more people would have said that they like to start discussions instead so far!
Thankyou for your response, it's appreciated! :)

I always do the respond and I only start a thread if the topic is really bothered me and I want suggestions and opinions from mylot community. But before starting a thread I do search if the topic already exist. It is quite annoying that some topics are doubled and already been asked how many times.

Thats when I like to start discussions the most so far! When something is bothering me, or when I want other peoples opinions on something which is important to me, but I also will do it for fun things like this aswell.
And aah, I should probably do that too, just in case.
Thanks for your response!

Majority of work is participating in discussion by giving comments. Probably I start less discussions. I prefer responding discussion more than starting because you have to get a good topic which will be answered by many.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. I think that commenting on someone else's discussion is easier, because you do not need to think of an interesting or intriguing idea for a topic of conversation first, if that makes sense.

I'd probably go with responding and commenting on other's discussion. It will save me time thinking of a good topic to start with and also trying to be a moderator of that discussion topic. Also, responding to other's discussion gives you more opportunity to learn something new whereas starting your own discussion somewhat limits you to learn since you have knowledge of it to start with. Getting into another person's discussion is much like getting into his mind and broadening your knowledge through his mind. Reading other's discussion is much like reading books too.

Actually before I always starting a discussion when I was new here 2-3 topics I started but later on I realized same idea you have, preparation of discussion, check a good topic and title will bore to me, so I decided to comments and responses - but if I have good mood to make a discussion I will.. like last month I made I think more than 5 discussions..

We are on the same wavelength on it! As an additional, just responding and not starting a discussion saves you of getting an empty thread. Haha! With just responding to a discussion, you are sure you are not alone in the thread! Haha!

Thankyou for the welcome! Hopefully we can both enjoy our time here at Mylot!
And ah, that seems to be a bit of a pattern to be honest, people only starting a few but commenting on quite a lot, so that's probably the path which I will start to take!
Thanks for the response! :)

Personally, for the most part you will find me responding back to more discussions than I start. Overall since you earn more from the discussions you respond back too than the ones you start, makes it more worth while to do so for sure. I have been known to Start new discussions though when I feel I really have something to say.

I am more than likely to respond to a discussion rather than starting one. Since I had been having to make time for reading emails, taking surveys, and entering sweepstakes online, it is hard for me to have time starting a discussion. I would have difficulty thinking about what subject I want to ask about in a discussion.

I do more responding than i do posting questions but i love both of them equally! I like to be able to ask whatever i want, and get some kind of response. I like the reliability of the responses on mylot. I know its not governed and mostly is a matter of opinion. If you are actually wrong about something here then someone tells you. That's not personally my approach but sometimes it needs to be said and i have been known to be the one to say it.

I prefer to respond to other people's discussion.I love to help other in this site.I only start discussions when there are doubts in my mind or when i enjoyed an outdoor picnic.I write comments to all the discussions i start. If a discussion is interesting to me, i try to write my best in the discussion.Sometimes i even get a best response.
If you respond to other peoples discussions, you could make new friends and you will even come to know about the mylot person better.

It really depends on what my purpose is on a given day. If I have something going on in my life that I want to tell people about, I will start a discussion. If there is nothing going on in my life, then I just go through the discussions available and respond until I run out of time or patience or both. Often the topics get me thinking about something that I hadn't thought about for a long time and are really important to me. Those are the most rewarding for me. Thanks for bringing this up!

I prefer to answer to discussions that interest me. I find it quite hard to think of new topics nowadays so I am just contented to post responses. When I was new here I enjoy posting new topics but now no more. I've ran out ideas already maybe.

I like responding to discussions,if there something that caught my interest.I do not answer, just to do so.I started a couple of discussions, again, only if I have something interesting to share,or if I am curious to hear what other people think about an issue. Also if I have a question, and I hope that somebody will have an answer for me.

Though I would like to be able to start discussions, I find myself responding to discussions and adding more comments. I don't really mind. I am enjoying myself. I personally don't want to start discussions just for the heck of it. If it so happened that I have something in mind and I wish to share it, then I will. So far, my discussions are just less than a handful and really not mind-boggling. I just simply want to share my thoughts. You see, I reserve my more serious thoughts and feelings on my personal blog. :D

I start a discussion whenever i feel starting one.
Like today...i accidentally hit myself when i am picking a guava and it landed in my head...so..just want to share it with friends and i started a topic about it.
But i also love responding to my friends topics and other mylotters.
I like having inter-action with other mylotteres to their topic...it get us to know each other better.
welcome to mylot

It's all about personal preferences much more than anything else. You'll find members that posts thousands discussions and barely responds one, and others who like to comment in every place but rarely starts a topic.
I'm of the type who likes to respond and comment rather posting my own discussions. It gets hard for me to find a nice topic and build something relevant and interesting so I don't start that many posts. My main activity is in fact responding to others from my interests, but from time to time I put my own topic.

I prefer to respond to discussions because it is easier to search for topics instead of creating one that would attract many responses;of course,if I feel that something original comes to my mind I start a discussion related to that topic, but in general I prefer to give answers, even if sometimes I have to repeat myself because there are many discussions started whose starting points are almost the same.
