This is a topic which has been in vogue for quite some time. that is reality shows wherein children below 12/14 years participate should be banned. It causes enormous mental strain on the contestants, their parents and also viewers.
A REPORT:
A non-government organisation (NGO) on Thursday filed a plea in a local court, seeking a ban on a popular TV reality show, hosted by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, stating it has a detrimental effect on the minds of children and youngsters.
According to the plea, filed by the Global Human Rights Council (GHRC), children try to attempt stunts featured in ‘Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi’ and end up seriously injuring themselves.
These stunts can sometimes prove fatal for kids, it states.

I am of the view reality shows participated by adults also should be banned because it caused too much of mental tension for people involved. People benefited are the tv companies and advertisers.

I put the blame on parents who I am sure are aware of the mental strain and yet encourage their children to take part. If there are no participants there will be no reality shows.

hi all knowing and ravi have you also noticed here in the us how a lot of child movie actors have big problems when they grow up and some have even broken the law and done jail time. It must be the long hours and the strain on young develping minds too.

They went trough thi regarding he kids in Jon and Kate + Eight. Some of the reality in that show was staged, such as having Christmas or Birthdays on the wrong day. The younger kids would get confused and end up crying. The kids were also not paid the show. This raised the argument, if the show is staged, doesn't that make the kids actors and such, they should have been paid. I hate the reality shows that follow people around. They take people, I don't care about an make them pseudo stars.

Real child actors have often been exploited by their parents or film production companies. (See Gary Coleman or Macaulay Culkin) A lot of child stars are disillusioned when they get older and can no longer find film work as adults. At least things might be a little better through the advocacy work of Paul Petersen (who played Donna Reed's son on her show). The State of Pennsylvania investigated the Gosselin's and merey decided that the kids needed work permits to be on the show. Big deal, eh?

Apart from payment - that is important - the children are put into tension in that recording is done in late hours. this u can see in many programs - judges and participants will be in sleeping mode./mood. have a good day.

It really ticks me off to think children are forced by their parents to perform any reality show. To include beauty pageants. Nothing like exploiting your children for the sick people in society to take advantage of. Why a parent would allow their children to delibrately do unsafe acts is beyond my train of thinking. I always thought parents were suppose to want more for the their children. Exploiting them is not what this phrase means. Also, if they are using the children to gain financial freedom this is even worse. I just don't get it. Best Wishes!

Yes you are right Reality shows which have lots of violance should be banned because if childrens watch it it may be harmful for them. Akshay Kumar TV shows have a lots of violance in that show, if tv shows have the compitiion like dance and singing than it is ok but dancing tv shows should not be volgarity in it and it should be like discovery channel tv shows which are actually reality tv shows

Even in dance and music competitions pressure created is extreme. the child is made to feel that "I am not good; others are far better than me". This complex should be avoided. A few out of them excel and start progressing well. have a good day.

I agree, reality shows should be banned with children in them. That's too much pressure and drama sucked out of someone's childhood. Also, it's not like they'd be enjoying their childhood because they'd be all over television. Being on tv always comes with a price and I believe you shouldn't be paying that price at such a young age. They'd have to watch what they say, and hope that millions watching them like them instead of getting bashed like what happens on most reality shows.

Thanks for your observations:
"That's too much pressure and drama sucked out of someone's childhood. Also, it's not like they'd be enjoying their childhood because they'd be all over television. Being on tv always comes with a price and I believe you shouldn't be paying that price at such a young age."
Next it causes enormous tension to parents of contestants and the pressure they create on children is more.
have a nice day.

I have only seen a few reality shows involving kids though, like talent searches and kid nation, and I really enjoy it. But not that i have read this, I kind of think that it does put stress on kids, since I have seen them fight on reality shows, but they did settle things and became more mature...So I am not really sure where I stand in this.. It has good and bad effects on them.

I as an adult am not a fan of reality shows and definitely not a fan of children reality shows. It sends the wrong message in my opinion as though life is tough there is no reason to glamorize certain areas so I agree that they should not be allowed for kids.
The only reality in my opinion should be learned through their homes and hopefully they are good exampled.

Friend very nice discussion really this questions was my mind since last week because I hate this serial when I saw it. I am afraid ohhhhh no how dangerous activities are showing and I am afraid someone can die. I also want to close this show. Really can be bad effect on children and this type of reality show permission should not give by the Govt.

yes. some reality shows are dangerous risking the life of children. In some reality shows children cry, parents of children cry making it very odd for viewers. have a nice day.

I dont want adult reality shows to be banned because I love them, its my guilty pleasure to me. There is a weird satisfaction I get when people gets voted off and when the person I root for wins...on the other hands children should not be in reality show. remember there is a show that edited negatively in the show, she is shown as a villain, she got cyber bullying afterwards.

I agree that children below a certain age should not be allowed to participate or even view certain programs. That is the age when the human mind is begining to develop and hence thinks a little differently. It is not a child's brain which believes everything. Nor is it an adult's brain that thinks rationally. So, at this tender age, such programs should be avoided.

Amit also seems to be in agreement with the view that such shows should not be encouraged. In some tv programs children are asked to participate in dances in vulgar postures. this should certainly be stopped.
