Cats and Dogs can be friends after all?

Good day to you fellow mylotter, I was surprised then, when I saw a cat and a dog kissing each other. Wherein, generally, cats and dogs do fight each other, hence, if they are not fighting, they will go to each his own since they have different ways on how to deal to each other. However, as I have said, I was too surprised with the situation that I saw - a cat and a dog kiss each other.

Yeah that can be rare to see, always cute though. I think two of the most surprising critter moments I saw was a mom cat feeding a baby squirrel that had been abandoned and the same with a momma dog and a piglet. I saw them both on the news some time ago. Pretty surprising and weird.

Cats and dogs are not really natural enemies. I have had both cats and dogs as pets and they have always gotten along. Dogs and cats can get along with bunnies too. It depends on how they are raised. It is just like how some dogs will fight people if they are trained that way, or they can be sweethearts.

Hello airash. Cats and dogs are very smart. They know what other animals are allowed in their territory. Years ago my grandmother raised chickens with a mother hen. If you know any thing about how a mother hen she keeps her chicks in a rather tight group when they are very young. One day the cat was eying those baby chicks. It looked like she was after one of those baby chicks but when she came out of that small flock the cat had a bird. The dogs would allow the chicks to crawl all over them. Now dogs know what other animals are allowed in their territory too. We have two dogs and two cats. The dogs were in the family first and where over a year old when the cats were introduced to the family. We have a tom cat that continually giving one of the dogs a bath. He also like to rub all over the dogs. and the dogs just lays there and lets him do it.

Cats and dogs, can live with each other with no problem, as long as they are socialized since puppies, specially if it is about an usually agresive dog, we are talking about, the most advisable thing is both puppies, cat and dog to be raised together, once the dogs has reach a year or so, it will be a lot more dificult for him to accept an animal from other species. And by the way, reading your discussion something comes to my mind, a case perhaps more peculiar, I witnessed some time back, a cat and a mice, drinking milk on the same plate.

Hello Airasheila, Cats and dogs can be friends if humans are involved. If they lived in the wild, cats and dogs would never be friends because, as you said, they have different ways of communicating. But when they live together in a household, they can become friends because humans ask them to. My parents' dogs used to chase any cat they saw but, one year ago, when I brought the cat, they had to change their attitude toward cats because we asked them to. They first chased this cat, too, but after a few days they stopped chasing her and now they are best friends: they lay in the sun together and they also play together (especially the younger dog).

My husband and I live in a small apartment, so the only pet we have is one cat. My mother has dogs and cats, and they get along. They kiss and touch eachother all the time, and have a great time playing together. There is no rule that says that cats and dogs can't get along. It's just an old stereotype.

Hi airasheila, every time I go near to the fence doing my weeding I can see little kittens playing around the dog. And the mother cat is resting somewhere near to them. It's weird that the dog is never making any undesired noise to them. It's just lying close to them quietly watching them relaxing. it seems like he is the litter cuties father cat. I haven't seen any cat and dog can stay so harmonious like what I have seen from my neighbor's pets. Oh gosh, it makes me more surprised when learning that the cat and dog you have seen kiss each other Anyway I like this lovely and phenomena for our environment would be more peaceful with less antagonism but more amity Have a nice day and happy posting!

We used to keep cats and dogs living together and they were the best of friends. Quite often we would find the cat and dog curled up together asleep. There were slight arguments between them sometimes, but it never rally amounted to much, just a big of growling and hissing.. _Derek

haha that's a beautiful topic! Yes i have seen this before, cats and dogs becoming the greatest of friends. We have a labradour and i know they are not violently natured at all but she gets on great with our cat charlie. They have the ocassional play fight, which is mostly just stirring each other up. They dont get hurt or angry. They just play run around the dog mouths at the cat while he swipes at the dog but neither of them connect at all, its mearly a game.

When i was a child at home, we always had pets. Usually more than one. Like a dog and some cats. Every now and then some unusual pet like a racoon or something else. Anyway many time i saw dogs and cats being friends. Its really not unusual.

Like peoples it depends a lot on temperment. A few years back we had a lapso Annie who had a very easy goin' temperment. She had been an abused dog who had no fondness for men, except one..(guess)..At the time we also had a couple cats who, in Annie, found a new sleeping companion and they'd all lay together on the couch content in each other's fuzz and company. I guess it just shows to go ya..Ain't nothin' carved in stone..Enjoy!

It's true. Cats and dogs can be friends. My dog who lives with my cats in good relation knew them since they have born. So it's possible to be friends when cats and dogs are in the same yard and know each other since very young. They even protect each other. I saw a dog who protected some cats from the frost in winter by keeping them covered with his fur to be warm.

yes some times the enemies become friends , many animals not thinking of their own comunity they do friendship with other animals. Many we can find such incidents. However i can say that if they are brought up at one place then there might not be any fight. In my view all the dogs are hunnters of cats and rabbits and small animals to them. Many of my cats are killed by dogs.many say that cats can climb and run very fast not a dog can do harm it.But dogs are dangerous and street dogs if we feed them sometimes if we ignore our eyesight they run after the small cats and kill them in front of us.

While cute, it isn't very surprising to see cats and dogs getting along. They may be different species, but that doesn't mean they have to always chase after each other hissing and barking. I used to own two cats and two dogs, and the four of them were best friends. :) They'd do the silliest things with each other. (I don't remember exactly what though, don't ask, I can't tell you.)

Good day to you too. It is the popular belief that cats and dogs don't get around but I don't believe that. I think they both have strong personalities. When I was a little girl I spent alot of time at my grandmother's house. She had this brown lab that was such a dear dog. Grandmother adopted alot of animals and at one point she had adopted a little kitten we called Ten dogs because when it scratched on a box it sounded like ten dogs. One morning we went out to the kitchen to find the brown lab laying infront of the woood burning stove and Tendogs curled in by its belly. Pals.

I have seen a lot of cases like this. Yes you are right they are generally enemies. We have two dogs namely Kim and Sparky and 1 cat and my brother named him Tom. Kim and Tom are the best of friends and they play a lot together but Sparky and Tom are the the best enemies.

That unusual but quite possible. I have a cat but don't have a dog. I think cats and dogs of one owner may become friends. Moreover i think there is some kinda training.

Its really cute when cats and dogs play and sleep together. They can really be friends and companions when they were raised together, living in the same house.
