Less study and heavy books

India
June 20, 2011 12:32am CST
Everyone knows now a days books weight is so high but student's study is less. In schools or colleges some time teachers are not present, sometime dance practice are running, some time teachers meeting are conducting, some time parents meeting are called etc. so more activities are running. So most of the time lectures are free. But if students forget a book in home for one day then teacher beat them and say why you are not came with complete books. Due to this reason students join the tuition and tuition trend is increasing day by day. What you think my dear mylotter friends teachers should change their stretagy and previous day they should intimate the child for next day programe so they pick less books.

In India stress is on getting a degree with high percentage. Gaining knowledge is not in priorty. I read in news paper that cutof marks in Sri Ram collage of commerce in Delhi is 100%. It is looking funny how some one can secure 100% marks in all subjects. Indeed books are not necessary at collage level education. The best way of teaching is that teacher deliver lecture on a topic and student note down it. It was teaching method in my collage days. I was never took a book with me. In India whole education system required a change. At present we must give perfarance to knowledge and not %. The teacher are only one who can change it.

You are absolutely right my friend wow great response. Really knowledge is important rather than degree and in India everyone gets only degree even they have no knowledge about that subject. Now degree is get only after paying money also really India's education system should be changed. Because still most of the schools colleges only demanding only donation donation donation they not check the student capability or study if the student is poor but brilliant he/she never join good college because there is donation is required.

The teachers at high schools and colleges are not serious about ensuring that students learn they are more concern about their monthly salary, rather than the students welfare.

Actually, your analysis is right. Education is losing its quality. Oftenly, it is the children who suffer most. Maybe some are capable to pay even high tuition fees, but there's no assurance a child can get a quality education. Most reasons or the extra curricular activities cited here purposely to incur funds for what they called for the benefits of the students. Maybe the best thing to do is to have both parents and teachers do agree to lessen the activities that has nothing to do with the academic related issues in the school. They should have been focused in the benefits of academic issues for the students. And maybe to get worth of high tuition fees being imposed. Hopefully, they would see things the way we do. Happy mylotting.

yes if there is a system and if its connected with internet then many problems will get solved very fast only the thing needed is no scam or fake websites and fake answers. If the things supplied to the kids at school are filtered and delivered according to their requirement then it would do a great help for every student. Then lot of time will be available for the kids to do the extra curricular activities which are more necessary to keep them stress free. Lots of expenditure would come down.

hi, yes teachers are bothered more about their salaries and school reputation rather giving attention towards the kids and the children .It is not the parents who are taking care not the teachers or the society cares.Children get depressed and tensed to these things. However time will come when books wil no more be used and only laptops will be used in the schools and its is just the business people who are encouraging these books and paper work. Children of the twenty first century and schools of the 2011 do not need anymore these luggages.Only till fifth standard its required.

Umabharti, think for a while that at present in India is it possible to use laptop in each school. Here are schools in rural which are running under the shadow of trees.

You are right my friend if school and colleges use laptop then donation will increase and poor or middle class people will die due to donation. Really why India is poor country.

im a bit confused by your statement but here is my thought: Education is really important since this is how employers gauge you before you are hired. some schools have adapted to have an ipad in exchange of heavy books. i prefer to have those large, hard bound books than an ipad because with books, i can highlight them, scribble on it and fold the pages. it makes my life more convenient than keep on pressing or flipping the touch side of the pad. on the other hand, i dont think there is a necessity in letting the students dance for a presentation unless it is their passion to participate in such event, it would also be silly if the students would spend lecture classes to practice classes, its ideally done after class. after all, students go to school to be educated not to learn how to dance or act unless its a drama academy or the like..

Well yes there is a need to revamp the education system actually a need to manage it well because education is a learning process and includes many other extra curricular activities. books are overwhelmed and no one likes reading them or bringing them to schools or colleges because they are big and heavy. I think that the education system must make some use of the technology like tablets and netbooks to improve the knowledge and skills of students to prepare them for future.

It will be a one time investment by the schools or the colleges.Because once they start the technology upgrade then it would be as long as computers be in the market. If we notice things then this can reduce lots of cutting of the trees which is harm for the environment.Books , pencils, pens, sheets lots and lots .If each class contains some fifty children then there is a requirement of only fifty laptops.Books are to be bought by every child and the teacher has much work to do. Now days every child is aware of a cell phone and many technology goods. So it would not be a difficult thing for kids. The rich and the poor both will be in profit.Using new technology i dont think that it would be only for the rich people. If such thing happens then schools will have only very few students. I dont know much about what is going as of now in the schools ,however many new schools are obtaining these new things.May be government can do something better than private schools.

The truth of the matter is, the teacher can't even afford to teach all the things in the book so why require the children to buy and carry those heavy books? Yes, you have a point. The system must change and its about time a solution is done to make things easier for the children in terms of learning and in terms of carrying and at the same time for the parents to save some money from buying books their children do not really get to read and learn.

Yes friend you are right teacher can't do the effort to teach well. Yes I want to change the system of learning but it is not possible from a single person wants because all is in the hand of Govt. If Govt. wants then they can change otherwise we all are helpless. Thanks for response.

I had this problem when I study, specially on highschool, I remember, some of the books were really thick, and, the worst part was that, in the end of the year, looking backwards, we havenĀ“t study even the half of the whole book, so, why a book so thick?. Maybe the solution could be the instalation of lockers, but, of course, in a school with lots of students and short of space this could be not possible, or if the goverment assume its responsibility and takes care of the edition of text books, or more smarter, lesson programs.

Friend you are right some books are heavy or thick. This is good idea colleges or schools should provide the lockers. But if the book is lock in the lockers then then the students how can do the study in the home. So cancel this idea. Ya but books pages can be less before publishing. Thanks for response.

Studies and books are both important in students life. But as you said many a times it so happens that when books are not brought we get into trouble with professors and teachers, apart from college and school studies there are many activites involved in our day to dat life so keeping alll into consideration we hardly study from the books infact when exams appraoch we take books in our hand, thats how the psychology of a student goes on life, so we should be balanced between studies and our outdoor activites.

whom you think are the relevant departments.Educational Institutions, Education Ministers or kids or parents who are suffering. Change comes from the need.Innovation comes from the requirement. So should see what are the advantages and disadvantages to have books in the schools rather using the latest technology. If books are doing good for the children ,why kids are learning many things from the television more easily .Whateever they see they remember what ever they practice they remember. Nations which are much developed dont tell to carry books.Development is needed.India is still a developing country .However we dont give much attention towards the education system.Just we see the kids finish off their degrees and get settled. But if we try giving them good stuff from their childhood then much more good things can happen.

Every one is using laptops and computers. Everything is there in the soft copies form. It is easy and faster to retrieve the data. Coming to hard copies text books are heavy in weight and not so easy to carry. We can carry hundreds of books in a tiny pen drive. Now the technology is advanced.

Well, what I don't understand is, with all this technology we have today, why do the students need all those heavy books? I saw something on TV about a certain college, I forgot the name, was making it a standard to use Apple iPads for assignments and homework instead of books. I think that is a great idea, after all carrying an iPad is a lot easier than carrying loads of books.

I think that books are really helpful and I think that students should read and understand them and not just carry them around. You are right. Books really are so big and bulky these days. I think that the main objective of teachers in schools is to let the students learn and not just read the letters on their books. In some private schools, they require books which presents to be a problem to those students who cannot afford one. I think that there should be considerations in these cases. Besides, there are libraries where books are stored. I know some who do not have books because they do not have money but knows a lot from reading from the library.

I am a Chinese college student, have seen many of our education system reform. First, I agree with the auther mentioned above. However,I have the experinced is the opposite. my first is that I have experienced it: I am for school, are exam-oriented education, a lot of work every day, many of the papers do. This sitation is not particularly in primary and secindary obvious, but to the high school is every impressive. You can imagine one day there are six sbujects, each subject teacher gave you five papers look? I am saying is that I have experienced a real, not joking. Although Chinese education system reform, but the problems are still not much changes. Questions the teacher always used to strengthen the students acquire knowledge level. In my opinion, the teachers educat students must master the method, can not use a large number of work to our students. A lots of books to increase student's knowledge, but not like some teachera, like China. The operation should be appropriate and should not be better. Above, is only my personel view.

One trend I saw in a middle school my niece was attending was for certain classes (electives) to meet every other day so that students didn't need to take those books with them on the days those classes didn't meet. Some schools wouldn't allow the students to take their books home at all and others had a set of books for school and one for home so that students didn't need to carry them back and forth every day. By keeping the books at school, it ensures that they are always there when needed for a lesson. Assignments can be copied so that the student can carry home the pages needed to do the homework but not the whole book. It might be better instead of having a full-sized text book for each student that there be a workbook that the student carries and it has the information for a given lesson or unit so that all needed information is available but it is lightweight enough that it doesn't weigh the child down. There are way too many heavy books for kids to have to carry them around every day!

I don't know any teachers who beat students for not bringing their books! I don't think there's anything wrong with continuing to require textbooks be brought to class as long as they're getting used in class (If they're not getting used then I have a problem with it! lol). They're not that heavy. I have an 8 pound Art History Textbook, and I can carry it in my arms just fine. And I'm pretty darn weak! Carrying a textbook in a bag is no problem, and if the bag gets too heavy then you can rotate books out depending on what classes you have for the day. Easy as pie.

I think that it is important for teachers to provide a valid education for people because of the fact that people pay good money for their education. Lecture time is important to students because it is during their lecture times that students are able to ask questions about their material. I think that having your books with you and also taking the time to ask questions is equally important in getting a quality education.

Books are used as references for the students lessons, so students must give time to read and understand them. Parents pay for these books so it should at least read and not used as just a props for being a student. When I was in school, I also do not bring all my books but only those that I think we will be using for the day. But I make it a point to read it at home and jot down some notes so I would be ready for tomorrow's lessons. And teachers should not punished students if they have forgotten to bring them to school as long as they studied their lessons.
