Would you agree to work anything instead of the dream job?

Hi everybody.
At the moment I'm going through difficult time of finding a job, passing interviews and finally I signed the contract. Unfortunately I'm still not sure that I'll like what I'm going to do. Yes, the job is not that bad - a KG teacher and I like kids, but my education is in finance and I like business. Unfortunately there is no chance of finding anything related to my qualifications at the moment and I am forced to accept anything. My husband it trying to convince me that it's a good opportunity and I'll have experience in two spheres but still I don't find this very convincing.
So my question is what would you do if you were me? Would you agree to work anything or you would only go for the dream job?
Thank you!

It would depend very much on the financial situation and the market.
If I had to earn right now, I'd take anything (I've done this in the past - but then I believe every job is an experience and a chance to learn something new... maybe that's why I've had so many... hmmm...).
If there were no opportunities in my sphere and it didn't look like that was going to change for quite a while, I'd do one of two things: either I'd decide what I'd like to do instead of my main career (which is what I've done in converting myself to freelance writer from IT guy) or I'd take something that wouldn't be too bad, as a stop-gap. I'd also check that I could leave the stop-gap job reasonably quickly if my dream job came up.
It's a tough decision. I've done some absolutely appalling jobs in the past because I needed the money - either completely unrelated (barman, supermarket shelf-stacker, etc.) or for horrible companies (whose names I won't mention...). In every case, I learned something new and met some decent people, so it was never a loss. I've been really surprised how valuable experience from 'rubbish' jobs has been, either in another role or in life in general.
The important thing, in my opinion, is to make sure you're not tied in to a less interesting job for months: the ability to get out with a couple of weeks' notice is invaluable as you continue to hunt for the dream job.
Good luck!

Thanks Spike. I decided to give it a try. As you're saying I may learn something new and who knows what will come in the future. It's not that I'm desperate for the money but staying at home in front of the net 24/7 is also not that charming idea :D.
Thanks again for your opinion.

You mean you don't want to sit at home drinking coffee and talking to MEEEEE?!
Yeah, I can see that.

Why did you sign the contract, then if you're not sold to the idea of becoming a teacher? Well, I think the question should be why did you apply for this job in the first place elida?
I think jobs are everywhere and you just need to know where to look. My profession is in finance/accounting/audit as well. I am also seeking employment now. I'm giving it time so I land on my dream job. Anyway, the best advise I can give you is to pray for it. You'll know what to do.

I see. Well, yes. The best thing to do is pray and seek for His guidance. Everything works better when we acknowledge that we need God's helps. Best of luck elida!

Hi beingwell. Thanks for your opinion.
I didn't apply for this job. The headmaster got my phone from somebody (I even still don't know where did she find it from :) and she approached me. I signed the contract because I didn't have any other opportunity coming up at the moment and I didn't want to end up without job again. I stayed at home for tooo long and here the jobs for ladies are limited. It's mainly in hospitals and schools. But if I want to work some admin job I should know the local language which is not that easy at all. Anyway, I'll follow your advice and I'll pray for it. Hopefully it will turn out to the good.
Thanks.

Honestly, out of necessity, I had to accept jobs which was less than ideal for me. Some of the things I never even dreamt of doing. I just consoled myself with the thought that it was just a stepping stone for me. To get me to the next best/better job.
I'm sure you'll do fine. Just don't forget that you're waiting for the next opportunity. That you'll be ready to pounce on, as soon as it appears!
Goodluck!

Sure until the person can actually move foward, for example if the person doesn't have where to leave or just left their parents, so they must do some savings, but should always give one step a day at least towards the dream cause working in what one's hate might be the secret to unhappy life.

Yes katie. That's what I'm scared of. When you're not working the job you like it becomes a burden after sometime. But I hope my case wouldn't be like that. I'll be working with kids and they are so adorable so I hope I'll be fine after sometime.
Thanks :).

Good jobs nowadays are rare.
So, if i were on your shoes, i would have that job. Give it a try, then if you find out that it is really not to your liking then you could probably start looking for that dream job of yours , while you are still employed .
What is important is you have a salary, while still waiting for your dream job.

If you are not financially stable at he moment, I think it is better to accept the job, at least for the meantime. It will add to your credentials, and it is also better than not having a job. You can have your dream job later if everything is stable. Good luck!

If I had the choice in this at the present time, no I would not. But during our economical hardships where this usually is not possible, I would take what I am offered. As long as it doesnt cost me more than gain. I began working with children after I was in a business management major. I was pretty happy about it. I think that sometimes we are called to do something else besides what we plan to do do. And working with children can be very rewarding.

Yep, not only would I, but I did. It was a job I got last month...
Okay, so I don't exactly have a dream job lined up, but this job wasn't exactly on the top of my list either. Actually, it was at the bottom of it. LOL. In fact, it's probably on the bottom of everyone's list. LOL But as I needed a job I jumped on it. What else could I do?
The pay isn't too bad considering I lack "experience", but the hours could be better. Not only do I work split shifts and half days (2-4 hours a day), most days I don't even work at all. So it's kind of hard to make a living on the wages I make. But at least it's a job and I'm gaining experience...even if it's not in a field I want to be in anymore.
I hope this helps.
Happy mylotting!

Hi sacmom. Yes, it helped a lot :).
Congrats for your new job. I'll be in almost the same situation in 2 months except that the working hours will be stable. Let's give it a try and if not I hope we'll have better chances next time :).
Thanks for your support!!! :)

In my opinion, there are no dream jobs at all, though we are in favor of some jobs and call them dream jobs.Actually,if you work hard in your job,and get success and happiness from your work, you will find it your ideal job. However,if you feel bored with your job,you will find your job, which you had considered as a dream job,is not a dream job at all.

When I think about it I can see that you're right. There is a lot of sense in what you're saying. May be the dream jobs are just in our heads. May be really if you give something new a chance it may become your real dream job... Anyway, nobody knows for sure what is going to be unless we give it a try.
Thanks for your opinion. It made me think of my issue from another point. :)

hello elida,
I did it once and i guess i will consider it again, depending on the salary and benefits provided.
I once worked in a job that is not even related to my education attainment, but,i can say that it's a challenging job and i also learned a lot from it,so..it's not that bad at all.
Besides, the salary is decent and lots of benefits as well.
I resigned because i am not happy with people that i am working with...
now..i am looking for a new job,and if provided i will be offered another job that is not related with my course...i will still consider it..for another try and new experience as well.

Hi jaiho. I wish you luck to find a nice opportunity. Yes, you are right that if you're working something not related to your qualifications is still ok but you should work with good people. I also would do the same if I cannot cope with my colleagues. I hope my new co-workers will be nice as well :).

Well, my dream job is that of Samantha Brown's of TLC but basically, I write for a living. We all want to live out our dreams but in reality it's not at all easy. I think just for practicality's sake, stick it out with your current job but don't stop looking for and pursuing job opportunities really suitable for your qualifications. You are blessed to have a job when there are so many people out there who can't find one.

Hi myswirlyagelessmind. Thanks for the nice advice. You're absolutely right that there are a lot of people who couldn't find jobs and I shouldn't complain. At the end of the day it's an experience and who knows I may need exactly this experience in the future.
Thanks.

I've been doing it for 11 years.. It just nothing I can do about it.
My main ambition was to be and engineer. I have a good result in my physics and additional maths subject which is the subject we need to excel if we want to be an engineer.
But before I've finish my mid-school study, my father got retrenched and he couldn't get a job. So after completing my mid-school, I've have to work and I work at a hard disc manufacturing factory for 8 years. While working I'll take a part-time study for Diploma in Electrical and Electronic engineering.
Once I've completed my Diploma, I join my current company as an Operation technician. I've been here for 3 years now and I'm happy with my achivement and work.
Not yet become an engineer, but I'm happy and I able to provide for my family. And I think that is enough to satisfy me.
