Guess it's time to clean...

My bedroom is a wreck. I think it's time for a little spring-cleaning. I've had a pretty tough quarter at school and I've been neglecting my room. Instead of putting stuff neatly away, I've been laying it down wherever. I've slacked off on my five-minutes a day cleaning plan, and now I guess it's time for some major spring-cleaning. Summer cleaning. Whatever you call it when it happens randomly instead of seasonally. So I'm curious... when it's time to clean out your house or your apartment... what do you other mylotters do? Do you put on some music and just plow right through it for hours (my current plan) or do you try a little bit of organizing every day?

when I was younger I could do marathon cleaning sessions, but I can't any more... today, for example, I had noticed that one ceiling fan wasn't putting out any air, and my floor fan wasn't doing well either, so I cleaned my floor fan, cleaned my ac filter and then stopped the ceiling fan and cleaned it as well Now, my ac seems to be working better (tho it wasn't THAT bad) my floor fan is making wind again and the ceiling fan is producing air! That, and loading the dirty dishes is about what I'm up for at home today - I might've done a bit more, except I had to haul my client's wheelchair into the car - TWICE and that pretty much did me in. I didn't get the floor vacuumed over there either, but I figured I got her to the doctor and got her fed, and the kitchen floor mostly clean, I'd done about all I was up for today there too!

it didn't take more than 20 minutes to swipe the dust off the ceiling fan, I sure didn't get up there and scrub it clean or anything - I did sweep up the dust bunnies/kittens/Brigadier's mustaches(old joke) from the floor (and the old cat.) I didn't put that in the trash, it looked like something that birds could make into a nest, so I dumped it outside (most birds have no real sense of smell so the cat smell won't bother them.) The floor fan and ac took even less time.

Brigadier's mustaches? That might be a joke I'd like to hear. And I'm sure the birds appreciated the gift, no matter what it might have smelled like.

UH HUH!! want clutter free? dont start one..hehehe! just joking.. You better clean your room or your house once a week so that dirt will not accumulate more on your things. weekends maybe is the appropriate time for doing this. It's better to do a 1 hour cleaning your room once a week than a day cleaning it quarterly!! get what i mean? It will soon be a habit. Then you will have a clutter-free environment. Easier to work in and comfortable to sleep in too.

Gee thanks. I tried to keep it clutter free! I really did! For about three weeks... and then I got behind. I don't know if my room needs once a week cleaning. It doesn't really get dirty or dusty... just cluttered cause I have lots of junk lying around the house.

I'm not very fond of rock music actually. And like I said before (to other people in this discussion), music doesn't really seem to help me. I get bored with myself anyway. My room's actually looking much much better. I just had to clean and be bored with myself for a few hours.

Yikes! i forgot about music. damn my mind! Put some rock music on too, make it too loud so it will put the bugs out then you can exterminate them..hehehe! Better clean your room before the summer is over.

Usually, I like to organize my room as the days go by, little by little. If clothes need to be put away I try and get them put away as soon as possible. Then, if I see little things that need to be done, I just do it and get it over with. However, I save the actual cleaning (dusting, vacuuming, cleaning mirrors) all for one time. Last weekend I did a deep cleaning of my room. I went through my closet, desk, dresser, and night stand and got rid of a bunch of clothes and stuff I don't use anymore. Once I had gone through everything, I began working on dusting all my shelves, desk, and dresser. Then I had to clean the closet mirrors and mirror above my dresser. Last was the vacuuming which took no time at all. Once I put on music, I'm able to breeze through the whole cleaning process.

I usually organize my room a little bit each day too, but I really screwed up these past few months. It's a little better now cause I've been doing some cleaning... but I've got loads of junk that I really need to get rid of. I think I'm going to have to divide the work between several days. How long did it take you to do your whole "deep clean"?

Yeah, the same thing happens to me every once in a while. So I just woke up one morning with nothing to do and noticed that my room needed some work. It actually didn't take me that long, I think it was about 2 and a half hours or so.

That's not long at all for a full clean... it takes me much longer to go through all my stuff. I hardly ever wake up with nothing to do though. lol

As for me I really don't clean at all! Haha! But I suggest you try some principles of manufacturing companies for organizing things in your place. Try the 5S methodology, a practice setup by Japan. In English terms the primary phases of 5S are: 1. Sorting 2. Setting into order 3. Shine 4. Standardizing 5. Sustain You can learn it more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5S_(methodology). It is a nice principle to help out your cleaning and organizing. Sorry, I'm just so addicted to work related principles that I often incorporate and share it in out-of-work life! Haha!

No need to apologize. Most of my cleaning seems to fall into category 1. I have so much junk...

There's nothing telling me I've got a lot of junk I need to get rid of, I was able to reason that myself. Alright already... I'll try the 5S methodology. Calm down. lol

Whoa! You sttill need a lot to go to be able to use the 5S principle then. It all starts at number one. Maybe, there is something telling you now you've got a lot of junk that needs to be disposed of already. Sometimes, those that we don't need are the ones that stays and is exposed compared to those really important. Go try out using the 5S principle! I'm sure you can work it out!

Well, I clean my bedroom once a week :D , during sundays because it's my free day. During the weekdays, I try not to really make a huge mess in my bedroom, like if I need to throw or pile something, I put it in the right place. And I like it when I'm cleaning my bedroom while playing my kind of music, while enjoying the music, I don't notice the effort I have already been exerting into the cleaning becuase my mind is focused on the music.

I get bored even with music on. I just want to be doing something else.... and it drags on and on and it seems like it'll never get done and I can't imagine how I got so much junk that I don't need but don't know what to do with. That was a run-on sentence, sorry!

I try to put on music too, but it doesn't seem to help me at all... I still get bored. My room is actually looking pretty good right now. I did clean it for awhile the last two days.

Well, we have a baby in the house. So we can only do a little bit at a time, or the baby will try to help. His help usually consists of rearranging whatever we have out.

LOL that does sound counter-productive. I suppose it's the thought that counts?

i would always put on some music. it takes away the stress (and the boredom) and lets you finish the job more effectively and organized.

I tend to get bored anyway... ever tried something other than music? (I don't know what would work but it's worth asking.. right?)

I always put some music when i am cleaning my room,or the whole house. I like to put some alternative music...or slow rock. It made me forget the time,or don't make bored cleaning whatever i am cleaning (hehehe) Checking all those unnecessary papers, letters or whatsoever papers in drawers. Thu i always had my things properly organized everyday,i still do general cleaning once a month. happy spring cleaning

lol, I'm not very happy about it actually. I just spent a few hours sorting through everything and I feel like I've barely made a dent. I really need to get more organized. Music doesn't really seem to keep me from getting bored. I get bored pretty quick with cleaning too.

Since i have a full time job during weekdays, i schedule my cleaning on weekends. We live with our parents-in-law, but don't have a maid. Mother-in-law , since they are already retired, have it for herself to always clean the house. It's her way of exercising, she said. So, on weekends, i also clean our bedroom. If cannot do it on Saturday, i do it on Sunday, as long as i do it weekly. That way, i maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of our bedroom.

Household cleaning can actually be a pretty good form of exercise. Unfortunately not for me cause most of my cleaning involves sorting stuff out.

Well for me all I have to clean is my room, but I just can't be bothered haha mom gets mad and starts doing the cleaning. Well I do feel bad but I'm more lazy I guess. Anyway there are times when I'm really energetic and want to do the cleaning. Then, I turn on the music and try to sort things out but then again I find something that reminds me of something and then get lost in it for the rest of the day lol

I am an organized person.I love to keep things in proper place.I love to do house hold chores.A lot of people now a days hated to do household chores and just busy with their life and sometimes people just waste their time in not doing things which is supposed to be done.I had known a lot of people that they are beautiful outside but they are not even organized with their things and don't even care if their room is clean or not. They are just pretending to be neat but actually they are not.I don't know how they can manage to see those untidy things surround them.

Well I certainly see untidy things... I just don't necessarily have the gal or the know-how to get things back to tidiness. I bet I could if I just sat down for a day and did it but I keep thinking of other things I have to do and want to do and it all winds up not being done.
