I used to have great nails, people used to ask me if they were mine or fake! But for the last few years, they started breaking, flaking, and no matter what I tried, nothing helps!I tried all kind of strenghteners too! I am very upset,I used to love to paint my nails(with a mini paint brush), in different funky ways, and now I have nothing to paint.Even if I keep them the shortest possible without hurting, they still flake and are very soft.Never had acrylic or any other kind of fake nails.I take vitamins and other natural supplements too. Any ideas or suggestions from anybody?

hey aghiuta OMG i so know how you feel. i've had the same problem as you do and I suffered for 7 yrs with bad, brittle, thick, yellow, fungi infested toe nails!!! You name it....very unsightly and gross!!! Take me as your living witness cause since I've started taking chelated calcium (600mg) my nails got better. Buy the chelated one so you won't worry about constipation. Please also do buy tea tree oil. It's available at Wal-mart and health stores..also on ebay and amazon. Get a q-tip and dub or rub the oil to each of your nail every night. After that apply some vicks vapor rub on top of each of them. You'll get instant positive result in minutes!!! I am swearing by it. The combination of tea tree oil and vicks vapor rub DO work! Do this religiously every night for months until you're satisfied with the look of your nails. Now if you want to strengthen your nail buy the Duri Rejuvacote clear nail growth system online. I've never seen them sold in stores but they are available on ebay and amazon. I'm telling you that stuff is a miracle! It made my brittle nails grow hard and faster. Be careful on trimming the cuticles on the sides of your nails though while cleaning them up cause Duri Rejuvacote will make the cut sting. So there - chelated calcium, tea tree oil, vicks vapor rub, duri rejuvacote nail growth system and you'll be on your way to getting back your beautiful nails. goodluck :)

Thank you very much!.I will try all this ,because I am fed up with this ongoing problem. What a coincidence,My best friend which happens to be an esthetician, just called me to tell me that she found a product for me,and surprise!it was the one you recommended!Lucky that she called before I bought it on E-bay!!!

Calcium, vitamins like vitamin D and minerals like zinc help strengthen nails, but since you are taking supplements already then perhaps you have to go a little deeper. Are you using or have been using acetone based nail polish for quite sometime? I read that this chemical helps make the nail brittle. The health of our nails is also a general indication of our general health so much similar to our hair, so it could be a sign ranging from poor diet, poor circulation to diabetes or some chronic illness etc.., I'm not a doctor and I do not plan to scare you but I think it would be wise to consult a doctor if the condition persists, good luck

I stopped using nail polish yeard ago,and when I saw my doctor and my dermatologist, they both told me that I am in good health, and it might be age related or menopause...I am 62.All the supplements I am taking that are supposed to help my nails did a great job on my hair.... As the stuff about age,I do not get it,since most of the people I know that are getting older, their nails are getting tougher.... I guess I must be different?!?!?

i read somewhere that to have healthy nails you have to take calcium supplements and another article said that garlic is good for the nails. I told a cousin who had the same problem as yours to try it but she wont because she hates the smell. well, the smell of garlic does linger so i couldnt blame her. but if you arent that sensitive maybe you can give it a try.

I guess, your nails had enough of those nail polish among others that you paint your nails with. They made your nails brittle. Maybe you can rest your nails from them, for about a month or two. Meanwhile continue taking vitamin supplements such as calcium, to strengthen your nails. Drink milk also.

one cause of nail problems is nutritional insufficiency. Include in your diet mineral-rich green leafy vegetables. If you do a lot of housework, use gloves to protect your nails from strong detergents and any other strong cleaning agents. Polish removers that contains acetone can be very drying. Some finger nail polishes and nail hardeners may contain formaldehyde that may cause allergy and irritation that might lead to nail separation. Therefore, be careful with picking the right nail cosmetics that you use on your nails.
