Do Women Who Formula Feed Really Believe It Is Their Choice?

Here in the US, over half of all babies are and have been formula fed for the last 50 years (according to Wikipedia). Why is this when breastfeeding is the biological norm and all the organizations advise you to do so? It is clearly the better choice for your child, the health benefits of nursing (to you) and breast milk (to baby) are well documented. I believe it is due to a lack of information and support for new moms, and for some ignorance or laziness. I am curious, do mothers who formula feed believe it is their decision? I am a mother who breastfeeds, and I wonder what women who have decided to formula feed use to justify that decision. Most of the information in the media is put out by formula companies, so while they say breastfeeding is best they are also using slogans like "strong moms". Do other mothers out there see it as propaganda?
