Epidurals and C-Sections

Why or why not? One in three births is now a Cesarean Section in the US, what do you believe in? Epidurals are linked to all sorts of medical dilemmas...Why is it that women so seldomly choose to have a natural birth the way women have been doing it for all eternity? I had a natural childbirth (read: no epidural or pain meds, no C-section) and still the doctors felt the need to intervene and use vacuum extraction to deliver my 8 lb 12 oz boy. I think we would have been just fine, and am sick of all the interventions which are mostly unnecessary. What do you think?
