What does it take to stop?

I have always been a firm believer that if you really want to stop doing something you can, without help from somewhere else. To my credit I smoked cigarettes for over 10 years, and quit cold turkey. That was a year and a half ago. I have also tried marijuana, cocaine and crack, and gotten addicted to none of those. Also pharmaceuticals like Hydrocodone and Adderall. I think it is all about your mentality and how you think about your addiction. Everyone has an addiction, whether shopping, men or women, food even. My mother has been an addict my entire life, and nearly everyone in my family is addicted to one drug or another. That blows the "it's hereditary" thing out of the water. What do you think?
