They pay members upfront for articles. The range of pay is between three dollars and twenty dollars per article. You also get money for page views. The amount of money that you make in page views depends on your clout level, which depends on the amount of overal page views you have. However, only people that live in the United States can earn with this site.

As people have said, you earn by writing content. When it was Associated Content, you didn't have to be a US resident - that's new. I'm in the UK and I still earn through it (though it's an absolute pittance).
There are a lot of other content sites that don't require US residency. Off the top of my head I don't know exactly which but, if you're looking for revenue share, there's Helium, Triond, Bukisa, HubPages, Squidoo and a bunch of others.
If you're looking for proper work (as in writing on demand for pay), your best bet is the bidding sites or some of the other online job lists. The better your skill, the more chance you have of earning (and we're not talking a few cents).

Writing has been my favorite hobby since my college years. As you kanow, I am sure, there are many sites where you can write online, articles, short stories, reviews, and so on. I am not familiar with "yahoo contributor" though. I have not worked on that.

Well i feel very bad when most of the good online jobs are meant only for us residents. The Internet although invented in US is now a worldwide phenomenon, so the online jobs should be for all.
they should pay for the quality of article, not according to locality.
