I want to cook for my boyfriend too! I suggest that you ask him what kid of food does he want. Of course if you want it as a surprise then don't ask him directly. Ask him in a not obvious kind of way what kind of food he will like, if it's Spanish, Italian, or French. If he answers, then at least you'll have an idea. It'll be better to choose what to cook.

The web has lots of recipes. Many of them have pictures and step by step explanations. I am a very good cook, but something italian could mean over a thousand rcipes, some of which are not for a beginer cook. Easiest in italian is to learn a couple of nice sauces to put over pasta. Spanish goes from the easy "cazuela" to the difficult paella. Luck at the web. Try "allrecipes" or "epicurious.com"

I like the Pizza with pices of hotdog. Maybe that coudl add some ideas to you.
