Lost in NY trains

I just moved to New York three weeks ago. I'm far away from the Philippines where I grew up and getting used to the trains is something I began to embark on today. I was scared. I wasn't scared that I might get lost. As long as I can read the signs and not be afraid to ask questions, I'll be fine. It's just that it was my first time alone on the trains.
I was supposed to take two trains. The first one I had to get off from because I thought I was going the other way. Turns out I was right all along and shouldn't have gotten off the train in the first place. Then the next train I took wasn't going the right way at all. It was the same train but it was going the opposite direction of where I was supposed to go. I did get to my destination eventually.
Have you ever moved to some place new and gotten lost? Were you scared? How long before you got home or got to your destination?

Welcome to the New York Train system. Don't feel bad, people that have lived in New York all their lives have gotten lost. I got lost once. About 40 years ago. lol Now with internet you can search for details before you leave home and find the right trains. Good luck.

I at least know how to read the map :) It feels like a lifeline. For someone who has toughened herself to not ask for help, New York is like iron sharpening iron. Getting lost today felt like a baptism of fire of sorts.

Hello professor!
It's so cool that you go to stay in the Philippines!
My real isn't Mary Jane though. I picked that name because it alludes a kind of shoe. And I used really used to have red maryjanes! :)
I haven't been here for a month and I'm loving the subways. It's just a hassle that they're putting up notices about route changes. Other than that, it's all great! :)
