I am from the Philippines, specifically in Lapu-lapu City. For those of you who do not know, Lapu-lapu was the first hero of the Philippines and the our city was named after him. According to history, Ferdinand Magellan, tried to invade our island and was fought by Lapu-lapu and his men. The historic battle took place in what we call now as Mactan Shrine. Obviously, the place has become a tourist attraction and many people come to the place to take pictures and pose for pictures... Well, perhaps you can share to me historical places in your area or near your area. It would be a great learning experience for all of us...

i am presently working and living in Lapu-Lapu, just like you, friend. but i am originally from Bulacan, the land of heroes. Bulacan has the Del Pilars and Balagtas and some others which i could not remember anymore. there are a few other tourist destinations in Bulacan. some of them are developed as resorts or some sort of recreation for the family and friends. but what still exists that is very historical is the Barasoain Church in Malolos City.

Hi Neil, It seems that we are so near yet so far. I have not seen you despite living in the same place. But perhaps one day, I will. Going back to your place of origin, I never knew that Del Pilars and Balagtas were from Bulacan. I heard and read of them on history books and social studies subject. Now, I know and thanks to you...Perhaps if I will try to visit Barasoain Church later on.

where do you want me to start? Austin is the capital of the state of Texas. It has a busy music scene; several universities; home of many famous writers, at least at some point in their lives; also the capital of the state that 3 Presidents in the last 60 years; the site of one of the first historic serial killings and one of the first mass shootings. http://www.austintexas.org/musicians/ http://www.austinlinks.com/austin_media/austin_writers.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servant_Girl_Annihilator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman

We have this old Spanish house who used to be the house of Dr. Pio Valenzuela. If you can still remember your Rizal's readings, Dr. Pio Valenzuela was Andres Bonifacion's messenger who brought the idea of helping Rizal escape Dapitan. Many times Dr. Pio talked Rizal into escaping with the help of the Katipunero under Bonifacio. Dr. Pio was then a young student of medicine and was a member of Katipunan under Bonifacio's faction. Not too many people know the place since most historical places associated with Bonifacio and the Katipunan are written off from our history. It is a sad fact.

Hi Edna, I have read about this somewhere regarding Dr. Pio. I have "Rizal" subject during my college days. It is sad indeed that some of histories important things have been forgotten. I just want to clarify though if the house is in Dapitan? I have visited Dapitan and Dipolog twice.

When me and my sisters were kids , the plane we ride from Cotabato would have its brief stay at Mactan airport . That was long ago about 48 years ago yet , i can say that it was a modern and beautiful airport . I bet by now , it had developed into a more very beautiful airport .
