I was wondering , How safe is facebook. Once I have changed my privacy setting to very restrictive level, and it automatically restored to default by Facebook. Do you think Facebook does that for another purpose ? Do they sell our data ? or allow to access our profile to third party application for money ?
How can I secure my Facebook Profile? Is there any other settings ?

Facebook certainly does not sell your information but, of course, most apps, games and so on DO have access to some of it. I believe that everyone creating a Facebook application has to agree to some pretty stringent privacy terms but, of course, there may always be a bad apple in the barrel!
Recently, Facebook has made some changes so that you can now access it over a secure connection (Account, Account Settings, Account Security - select Secure Browsing). This works well until you use almost any application and you have to agree to turning it off until you next log out and back in.
I am puzzled that your settings were set back to default. Perhaps you changed the settings just before Facebook made some changes to security a while back. I heard of several people whose settings were changed like this.

I never actually log out, either. I'm not sure how that affects security, though if you open the browser one day to find that you are logged out, it could indicate that your account has been hacked, I suppose. It might also mean that you just cleared your cookies.
