Corrupt Policemen

I was driving to work, listening to 92.3 Aksyon TV, and I heard about this police officer who allegedly harassed a motorist. The police officer is a PO2 so his rank is one notch higher. After hailing the car to a halt, the police officer allegedly sent his "helper", a civilian, to ask the motorist to get out of his car and approach the police officer in his police car. The motorist, in his good judgement, didn't oblige so the officer rode his car by the side of the motorist's car and cursed the motorist. He then snatched the motorist's license. The motorist didn't even get to know what his violation was. The police officer then commanded the motorist to follow him but the motorist went straight to the Aksyon TV headquarters. Mr. Tulfo, the host of the program, called the police station where the officer is based and his superior, in a way, defended his subordinate. Although he mentioned that he will not let this pass, he still explained that the "civilian" who was riding in the police car was necessary and that it's part of their protocol due to police shortage. Mr. Tulfo got furious and he bad mouthed the police official, saying that he should look at the mirror and call the person he sees in it a moron. He then called that official's superior and that's when I got off because I'm already at the office. What do you guys think?

This is now but a normal thing. We heard a lot more serious incidents involving civilians and policemen. We also have heard a lot of promises from the high officials but still, morons policemen are out in the street, not to arrest criminals but to prey on innocent civilians and distort money for their vices. I think as long as higher officials are tolerating these morons, there's no way we can trust these policemen. I have a suggestions, why not assign these morons policemen in Spratly Island and let them distort money from Chinese intruders?

Haha! That's an excellent idea. Let's send these corrupt policemen in Spratly along with our defective Tora Toras. That'll be the day! :D

I wasn't surprised either. My initial reaction to that was frustration and anger. I'm angry because this is the world where my children will live in and I can't do anything about it.

I don't think these kinds of things would stop if there isn't a total change of people or a reshuffling. I think it's important that the government should reshuffle people or employees not just policemen but also those who work in the government. Most people working in the government are way too comfortable with their positions that they don't really perform well or are just there to get the salary without exerting the same effort as that of a private and irregular worker. Let's take for example government institutions like SSS, GSIS, NSO, DTI, City Hall, etc. these government units are important because they're the sources of clearances, information and certifications that one needs to file in order to get pensions, employment and all sorts of 'papers'. But how come amidst the number of people being employed here there seems to be a very slow process of getting papers done? I could recall my filing of SSS. I am under the 'self employed' category, thus the filing was done individually. I did my filing in 2001 when I started earning. For apparent reasons they seem to have a problem with documentations and I have submitted several authenticated Birth Certificates in order to change the misspelled middle name (I don't know why it was misspelled when I checked it the first time they inputted it). After several years of following it up and re-submitting papers, I only got to change and fix everything last February. How? I gotten to know someone inside the institution and told him about the problem and he manually typed the misspelled word in their system and after a few seconds it was posted and up to the records. I mean, how difficult is it to change a misspelled name (only a letter) when I have given them proof that I am the person? It took them 10years to correct things and frustrating enough, they only needed to re-type and repost it! Seriously, the government should take these people off the employment list. There should be a limit to how many years a person serves the government and I don't believe that regularization is good because it just makes the employees lax and complacent about their jobs because they're sure that they're never getting fired. Like private entities, there should be a certification exam after a few years of service so as to be sure that the person is still competent. Further, I believe that same family or relatives should not be able to work together in a department or unit, it just favors few families when there are far more competent people who could do the job faster, more efficiently and correctly. Indeed if we want our country to be better, we should start from the grassroots of things. Eliminate these people who are obviously bad tomatoes. The government can do this if they stop favoring families. The President should start doing something instead of just 'studying' everything. I'm not a Gloria fan but at least she re-shuffled a lot of people in BIR and LTO which minimized (if not eliminated) a lot of the bias. What has the President now done to start? or is he still in school studying everything? Have a great MyLot experience!

Seriously, we need to cleanse the country of these termites we call rotten policemen before our society deteriorates any further. If every motorists take their part and report every rotten police patolas asking for money, then we can all live to the ideals of Rizal and every heroes that fought and give up their life so we as Filipinos win our own nation. The question is do we deserve to be fought and sacrificed for, if we cannot do it for our own sake, or for our children? I dont know, the answer relies on what we do next time we hit the road.

These corrupt policemen are also scared of being broadcast over the radio or tv. So it would always be a precautionary measure not to show them that you are intimidated by them. That was smart of the motorist to go straight to the tv headquarters , much more to Tulfo, who really would confront those erring officers.

Why am I not so surprised...? These days, it is really hard to find good policemen in the Philippines. These guys often do not realize that the people they are abusing are the ones they should be protecting. These money used to pay off for the salaries and wages of these guys are all coming from hard earned tax payer's money. Think about the tax that you pay whenever you buy medicines, food, clothes and of course, that part that gets deducted from your salaries. I believe no matter what or no matter how the PNP tries to show the public that they are trying to discipline their men, there will always be issues regarding corruption. I have not yet had a day wherein there aren't any reports of corrupt or abusive police officers in the Philippines. Not sure what measures the leadership of the PNP and PNOY is doing about it, if there's any at all.

This is a normal and common dilema in our policemen and the system in our country. The question is WHY? My answer is straight BECAUSE those policemen are normally and commonly having more than one families to feed. So what is the tendency to make extra income in order to keep the same amount to be given to the original. The system is so soft, need to discipline and correct the system pitfalls...
