making money out of your hobby?

Making money out of your hobby is probably the best way to make money since the work won't be dull and/or boring. What is your hobby that you would love to transform into a job and make a living out of it? Personally I am trying to become a composer and earn money from composing music for video games. It would definitely be a dream job for me. Another good thing I can think of is making it to pro-gaming and live from the first place rewards in the tournaments I participate xD.. or maybe I could do both...

I would love to be able to sell my crafts online. I am into soap making and candle making. I had tried last year to sell my crafts on esty, but there is so much competition. Also, candle making is fairly expensive. I am hoping to make money on here so I can buy some supplies and make more candles. I do not use glass jars for my candles, but rather small flower pot. I have not been able to find a good deal on small flowerpots.

Competition is something I experience in my field as well. I try to ignore it, even if someone else takes my job I get experience as a reward. I know experience is not as encouraging and motivating as earning money, but in the end it will help you not repeat the same mistakes again.. and until you know it, if you are really persistent, I am really sure that one day you'll make a living out of what you love.

I enjoy making candles as well. Have you tried a wholesale website to find containers? I used one, aliexpress.com and got some real cheap, at like 18cents a piece. I had to buy like 350 though, but its still worth it if you're planning on selling it.

Oh yes. It requires a lot of talent and work though. plus, there are many different jobs you can do in comic creation. You can either be the pencil artist, or the colouring artist, or the script writer and of course any combination of the above. If you have what it takes, I hope that someday you'll find some free time so that you can spend it on comic creation! :)

Hi coldnpale,actually your dream job is my job online.:-) Lol I produced music for individual game developers for their games.My previous project is the Lamebo vs Zombie game app from Swagsoft.Music composition is my field of interest thats why I never get bored with it since this is where I enjoy the most.your right,its a very exciting job.You can actually start making your own soundcloud for your music samples and youtube videos so game developers will recognize you if you want to earn out of your hobby.:-)

That's great! I hope I 'll be able to take this to a proffesional level as well. I can really never get bored of it. I currently have a profile on newsgrounds and myspace (which is dying nowadays due to fb and twitter). I never heard about soundcloud, but it looks interesting! So i'll definitely check it out! My hobby is writing. I write in my native language the most. And I have published some short stories. they pay me for that. Also, writing here pays!

yes. Writing is both a nice and rewarding hobby, as far as financial earngings are concerned. People will always have something to write about. Because everyday something new happens in the world. And as a reaction, people will always have something to read about. I have several hobbies, from sewing to wood carving, to landscaping. But I guess my Passion is with plants. I could spend hours working on them and not even notice its getting dark. One day I will have a plant nursery with everything from roses to lilies and fruit trees and well any kind of plant you can think of. As long as it grows in my climate, ill have it. I just wish there were more buyers in my area. I know of 2 places that have gone out of business and only do it as a hobby. So ill see how it is in a few years.

It sound like a really nice hobby. I really don't have any experience in the field. My only connection with flowers and plants is that my mother and grandmother love them.. and enjoy taking care of them. They are a responsibility but it must feel really rewarding to see them grow after time! Good luck with it, I hope you realise all of your plan(t)s. xD

Haha, composing is my hobby too. I mainly make Hip-Hop beats, as a hobby mostly, though I know it can be a good source of income so I try to sell them, you know? My problem is, I think, that I don't make that 'radio ready' stuff you hear everywhere and sounds the same, I'm more into the old school stuff. But yeah, I made some money through this, and I've put them all in music again, buying hardware like headphones, keyboards, etc.

Nice to hear you can earn something out of your hobby! Composing is my passion, and probably will remain even if I will never be able to make a living out of it. I am not into mainstream music as well. Mostly I enjoy composing music inspired from fantasy tales and days bygone. Tolkien for example is a great inspiration of mine. One hobby that I enjoy a lot is writing. Currently I write articles online, and I make a decent amount of money each month doing this. I write for two different online publications. I really enjoy the work and it provides additional income to my family. I am really happy that I can use my hobby to earn money. It doesn't seem like work when you enjoy what you are doing.

You have such a great hobby! Good luck in making money out if it:) For me, it's blogging! I've been blogging for almost 4 years now and I'm just loving it. I love writing, and making friends online. I am earning pretty good bucks from it and it helps me a lot. I'm loving it even more!

It looks interesting, even though i'm a newbie in this field. Writing in mylot might prove encouraging, and inspire me to move deeper in the area.. even though it all depends on the earnings in the end.. it's the greatest motivation of all.

I would love to be able to do something with my painting to sell money. Just recently I have started getting a few friends asking me about buying my stuff, so I am thinking about it, how to turn it into a hobby somehow. I also love to write but I do a lot of that in my day job so I don't do much as a hobby these days, maybe I will do it again for fun one day... :)
