i have so much fear for snakes and high places. With snakes, i cannot even look at them on television, for fear that i might dream of them biting me. So with high places, i cannot bear looking down from them, because it's as if i will fall. I get so dizzy, just looking down from a high place. I won't even go near a railing of a veranda on a very high place, for fear that it might give way and i will fall.

Before answering your discussion, let's look back to the definition of Phobia. According to the American Psychiatric Association, a phobia is an irrational and excessive fear of an object or situation. In most cases, the phobia involves a sense of endangerment or a fear of harm. Based on the definition of phobia, I think I don't live with phobia. I am afraid of snake but it doesn't mean I feel so scared or excessively scared. I think everybody scare of snake. It is dangerous animal, isn't it? People who live with phobia feel so scare with something that we should not scared of. For example, Aurophobia- Fear of gold. I think it's incompetent if we scared of gold. Everybody love and want it.

They say that in order to overcome your phobia is to face it. If you are afraid of worms, I guess, you have to try to visualize yourself holding it. And if you have already visualized it, try holding it and see what will happen to you. You have to prepare yourself.

I have Spheksophobia - Fear of wasps. They terrify me. Seeing one, my heart rate goes through the roof, I feel all clammy and dizzy and I can't think of anything else but getting away. Far, far away! If I'm working along and a bug buzzes near my head, I automatically assume it's a wasp and freak out and run away. I don't mind snakes, or spiders, or heights, or small spaces but wasps are my idea of hell. To a smaller extent I feel the same way about bees. I think it's a magners advert thats on at the minute, with the guy who has bees that look like a beard...I can't look. And I heard recently about a guy who's truck broke down, carrying a load of bee hives, and for some reason they escaped and were all over (literally ALL over) the repairman's car and I get all itchy and creeped out just thinking about it. I don't know too much about how you can minimize your phobia, I'm afraid. I know in theory, you should try and expose yourself slowly. So first, to try and look at a picture of a worm, then a documentary with worms in. Then stand inside the house and look at a worm in the garden, then stand outside (but still far away from the worm). Then try moving slowly towards it, a little at a time. This should be a really slow process, over days if not weeks. Eventually (in theory), you'll get used to the idea of worms. You still probably wouldn't want to touch one but eating green vegetables or seeing a worm from a distance wouldn't give you panic attacks anymore. I hope this helps...But if anyone told me I should do that with wasps I know what I would say!

By my name you can already tell I have some type of a phobia, unless you don't know what phobias are lol. I have belonephobia, also known as Trypanophobia. It's the fear of needles. I've had so many terrible experiences with needles and my doctor jokes with me saying "At least I know you won't become a heroin addict anytime soon ;)" Haha.

I'm an arachnophobe - fear of spiders, in my case (though it can also apply to other arachnids, such as scorpions). It's my only real phobia, though I have other dislikes that work in a similar fashion - they're just not strong enough to be considered phobias. The most annoying one is a reticence with telephones... I really don't like them. No idea why!

Phobia is really an interesting thing. A lot of the time, phobias are something that is directly put in our own minds, as we tend to be a prisoner of it and a prisoner of our own fears. With that in mind, everyone really does have something that makes them uneasy. Whether it is reasons of their own mind or for a really bad experience when they were young, it is really something that remains up for debate. Still I really do feel a lot of the time that I do have many fears when I think about it. Mostly a fear of heights, or rather a fear of heights does tend to be a fear from falling from a great height. Let's face it, it is really a long way down when someone really does in fact fall. Heights aren't the problem for me, there are a lot of the time where the falling. Also I am a bit weary of going into deep waters, based on the fact that I nearly drowned when I was young. My own fault, but still those are just a couple of things that I am a bit weary of.
