Hi, I would like to know if Indians are able to make online purchases through paypal. I want to host my website and want to know if paypal is still working. I am not using paypal for a while now. Are there any good webhosting companies which have alertpay?

I'm quite sure, that PayPal works in India too! PayPal also have an Indian-"part" of their website. PayPal India: http://www.paypal.com/in Here are some facts, prices, information, etc. in India: https://www.paypal.com/in/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside

Paypal is available for India. However, from march 2011 Indians are only allowed to receive money but not purchase anything online.

That is true subhakars. Indians are not allowed to either transfer the money from their paypal account anywhere except to their Indian bank account, nor they are allowed to keep the funds in their PP account for more than 7 days. This is due to draconian intervention by RBI.

I must say that the RBI guidelines are proving very harsh to the free lancers and webhosting services. According to the Paypal latest guidelines which are in effect from 1st march 2011 a person cannot keep money in his or her paypal account for more than 7 days and purchase of goods and services using the paypal balance is also restricted. For further details you can look at https://www.paypal-apac.com/india/

Yes, pankaj. RBI brought up those guidelines ostensibly to restrain unwanted elements to use the PP channel to transfer funds illegally. Unfortunately, all of us freelance workers, webhosting providers etc., came under this blanket of restrictions. Let us hope RBI will wake up to the needs of small time earners like us and relax the rigid rules.

Well a maximum limit has to be made which can be kept in the paypal account otherwise you have to withdraw your money in a bank. This can be a legitimate solution but we cannot keep money in our paypal, as if the government is afraid of foreign money coming in our country.

Hi Subhakar, When i tried to purchase online last time with paypal, I am not allowed to use my balance. Transation took money from my linked credit card instead of PP balance. Paypal balance can be transferred to bank account.

As per recent guidelines from RBI we Indians can have paypal account. get credits into it. But we are expected to withdraw within 7 days into our bank account. We are not allowed to use the balance in paypal account for making purchases.
