My mother when she was alive use to drink coffee four or five times a day, of course less quantity each time.
Somewhere I was told that more coffee means more caffeine, more caffeine means more Blood pressure, more blood pressure more strain on heart, more strain on heart means......
Now there is a happy news:
Coffee lovers, raise your cup to the latest research on the benefits of your favorite beverage. Researchers at the University of South Florida say there's a mystery ingredient in coffee that could protect coffee drinkers against Alzheimer's disease.
Using mice bred with symptoms that mimic Alzheimer's disease, a team at USF found that caffeinated coffee appeared to protect the mice from the memory-robbing disease.
In a study to be published June 28 in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, the researchers say coffee seems to have an unidentified ingredient that combines with caffeine to reduce brain levels of beta-amyloid — the abnormal protein that is thought to cause the disease.

I am a big coffee drinker and do drink decaf coffee. The thing is with the researchers is that it is good today and bad tomorrow. I come from a background of really heavy coffee drinkers and do not know if coffee has had an bad affects on them.

@hardworkinggurl: bad choice, it needs caffeine to work, but decaf is certainly better for the heart.

Hi Topffer
I gave up caffeine as a bet with my son about 8 years ago. He said he would give up colas and I said I would give up caffeine. It was cute as both of us were on a some sort of race and happy to report that he does not drink colas ever since and I cut out all the caffeine in my life. Though decaf coffee may not be the quicker picker upper that most prefer, for me something warm like this does it for me in the morning. I am not a tea drinker so I resort to this.

yes. I like Kumbakonam degree coffee -- coffee decoction mixed with fresh milk and sugar - super taste.
In western countries people drink coffee without milk also. I do not how it will be.
have a nice day.

I love coffee and I really hated it when people said it was bad for you, even though I never had problems with the caffeine keeping me awake. I never had problems with blood pressure other that caused by worry. So I did become upset when I learned that all those years I cut down on coffee drinking, it may have harmed me. Well even though Alzheimers is not in my family, I will keep up with the coffee drinking.
All us coffee lovers salute you for giving us this information!

Not going to give up coffee. I also intend to live to 100 so that would be of 40 years of restriction and cannot do this. I do have two cups of coffee in the am,( not counting if I go anywhere like invite and they have coffee (they usually do not have green tea there), but then I have green tea in the afternoon. It is good for you, so I want to take advantages of the goodness of coffee and the goodness of green tea. And I do need the coffee in the morning. Did my washing and now after I had a coffee, I realized that I forgot to put in the hand towel and the face cloth, so have to leave them until Monday.

Wow that's great news! In addition, to it being an anti-oxidant , now this wonderful discovery.
I will now drink coffee not only during breakfast, but also during snacks so i could enjoy its benefits. However, i don't like drinking them after 6pm. I might not get to sleep early.

I should drink more coffee. There are lots of good things that come from drinking moderate amounts of coffee. I love coffee too, but don't drink it every day.

I don't have time right now but I intend on reading this article. At this point, I disagree with the research results. I had a great-great aunt and a great-grandmother that both suffered from Aszheimer's Disease. They drank coffee pretty much all day long. So I'm looking forward to reading the article to see all that it entails. Thanks for the information. Best Wishes!

Hi ravisivan! :)
May i know the journal from what years? because you only said it is published June 28, year is very important in journal released, you know.. :)
I just curious about this, because i already read the same topics on the newspaper years ago in my country.
I still remember that the research on that journal i read concluded that drink coffee one or two cups a day can reduce the risk of Alzheimer, but ONLY for woman.
And drinking more than two cups can be too much and not suggested for it can cause another problem in health, such as high blood pressure and diabetic problem.
So, if there is some latest research which concluded that drinking coffee can reduce the Alzheimer's risk for BOTH woman and man, i really want to know :)
so curious to hear it from you, ravisivan! :)
Have a great day!

This is nice news to all people, coffee drinker and otherwise!
Alzheimer's disease is typically common during old age. Thinking that all of us will eventually going through to that stage, this news would help ease up our fear of getting that disease.
Hopefully scientist could find cure for AIDS and other diseases which are to this point, deemed incurable.

I am not much of a coffee drinker cause it makes me too hyper.
But reading your post, I think I need to develop a sense of liking coffee drinking. I might have to do it in moderation, though.
Have a nice day as well!

I knew it! I come from a falily raised on coffee so the speak and must say, no one of my family has alzheimers. I wake up first thing (which I never forget) is to make coffee.
This is great news but what someone already said, today it is good for you, tomorrow it is the worst what you can do. Wonder how come this is always the case? Can they not just do a decent research and a counter-research before they make such findings public?
Well still good news, wathever the news tomorrow will be!
