This question is for everyone out there who has seen the show extreme couponing. My husband thinks it is fake and there is no way to get that much stuff for so little or free. I think that it is real and I want to learn how to do it. The question is do you think it is real? Do you do it? or do you think it is a set up?

I believe that most of it is fake. I have worked for one of the companies that their stores are on there often and I know that they have policies about how many coupons you can use and I also know that they do not triple coupons or even double for the most part. Also, most coupons are only for a few cents off of a product so how are they getting this stuff for nothing as the items would have to be for less than the coupon was. Also how do they not have to pay all of the sale tax? I have always had to pay sales tax on anything that I have bought. I did get a free toothpaste coupon once, but I still had to pay the tax.
The stuff that they buy would be outdated before they could use most of it so in my opinion they are wasting money.

In most states you have to pay sales tax on food. I think the show is fake as well. I would think that most stores have a limit on how many coupons you can use. I know most stores will not accept online coupons because many people are making photocopies of the coupons are ultimatly the store has a loss because the manufactures do not give them the money for coupons that are photocopied.

I have no doubt that it's real... but to do it at that level is a full-time job. You have to spend a huge amount of time sourcing and sorting coupons and locating sales. You also have to find the types of stores that will double and triple your coupons, offer store loyalty/discount programs, and more. Where I live in Canada, there is no such thing as double or triple coupon day and, while the stores may offer points or a rewards program, they don't offer cash back or anything like that.

I don't want to do it at that level I just want to lower my bill so I think it is cool. I did not know it had to be at specific stores.

Well coupons for brand name products are accepted at any store, of course, but if you have stores with "extra" programs, you can get even more value from the coupons
I get my coupons online because we don't have coupon flyers in our newspapers here. There are websites where you can print the coupons yourself on your own printer or some where you order the coupons you want and they send them to you in the mail. Sometimes, you can get coupons by directly writing to the manufacturers of products that you really like (since coupons are the manufacturer's way of encouraging you to use their products).
You can definitely knock money off the cost of your groceries and you certainly don't have to go to the extreme level. For instance, I order toilet paper coupons all the time that are $1 off. I look to find that brand on sale somewhere and usually end up with a 24-roll pack for $1.99 or so. Now, if one of the grocery stores offered "double or triple coupon" day, my toilet paper would be close to free :) It's that easy. Once you get started, you'll find yourself trying to do it more and more because the money you save is instant.

I have heard of the show, but I do not see any truth to it. I use coupons myself, but only buy items that I really need. I rarely save that much money. I know at my neighborhood local store last month they had a really great deal on meat. You buy 5 packgaes of meat (each package had 4 pounds of meat) for 20.00 and I had saved 80.00, but that is rare. I think the show is a set up because she cheats the system. I cannot see how she needs all the items she buys.
