I believe it depends on a person's hobby as well. I like to sew and knit but for me to convert these hobbies into something serious would require serious amount of money which I don't have so, I guess, I will have to just do with sewing things at home for myself and have fun. I am also very skeptical about sewing for somebody else because people sometimes tend to be very picky, especially when they have to pay for something and your hobby could turn into a nightmare if you get a bad customer.

I agree with you Hdhorda, converting a hobby to a profession is not for everybody and yes, luck does play big in this. As a matter of fact, luck plays role in everything that we do in our life. I am for some reason very scared when it comes to converting my hobbies into profession and how it would go. Maybe a good research.

hhmmmas you said about your experiences i know you are an experience person but i think luck plays a very vital role in getting successful in that particular hobby and only some people can make and convert their hobbies into their profession that's what i believe.

Hi there,
Well ofcourse yes it is poosible to make your hobby as your profession. I am interested in photography, recently i have studed a lot on how i can transfer this into something fruitful. I am going to purchase a professional camera next week and going to start practising on taking good pictures once i do it, i am going to sell my photographs hopefully i will do what i have dreamt of. I am even investing in a good computer so that i can put my photos in and also get my photos copywrited. This way if you have any passion for your hobby and do not want it to get wasted, get started by first practising and then making it a profession

Thank you so much :) yes it is very necessary that you work in what you like. I am doing what i like apart from my real profession. I work for a finance company which is really very risky work for me. But i want to keep that artist alive inside me . Best of luck to you too my dear.

a lot of people who are living the charmed, successful life started their passion as a hobby.I also think that your hobby/ies can determine the things that you'll be successful at.with hobbies, you do them without even earning money.you do them tirelessly, not minding the hours, and you don't get sick of them.I read this nice quote,"if we all follow our passions, then all of us won't be working anymore".i love this quote because it tells exactly that when you love what you are doing,it is effortless.

Very good quote and very true as well. I love net surfing and mylotting and I can already see how it has become effortless for me to go through all the posts and learn and reply to them. I may not be making tons of money here but I am gaining tons of knowledge for sure.

I admire those who just started their business as a joke and not taking it seriously because it is just a hobby according to them. It is true indeed that collection of items, cooking fancy foods, and others can go into big business. The creativity and perseverance to achieve a certain goal are the factors of making a little into big. However, there are those because of negative thinking prevents them to try in the first place, holding them back to move and take challenge, and there are those because of their need to sustain their day to day needs, are much stronger to face failures and that they keep on playing the game of trial and error, win or lose.

Hi HDHORDA4,
It's absolutely possible with determination and effort!
Someone who loves taking photos can easily become a photographer if they put their mind to it. Same with people who like to paint, write, play sports, build things, etc...

Yes, that is true.
Some people do not have time to go to college and get a higher education to persue the career of their choice. Sometimes, they are forced to settle with an ordinary job just to survive.

it's not about luck... it's about taking what you love to do and turning it into a great way to make money. you first have to be very positive and know you are going to be very successful. everyone has a different view of success. and you should change it for yourself every time you hit your goal. my first goal is to make $3000 a month. Once i hit that goal then I will up it to $5000 per month.
but if you or anyone is serious then you can do it. I am doing it and anyone can do it

My hobby is piano playing and I have done this since I was around 6-7 years old. My first career became that of a musician, so you could say I turned my hobby into a career. After about 12-15 years though, there was a recession - not like today's recession, but musicians lost work as clubs and theatres closed down here in the U.K and I had to find another career. I had alway had a strong interest in the human mind and psychology, so I re-trained back in the laste 1970s and became a therapist. _Derek

It is possible to do this...if you are crafty, you can sell your stuff online or at the weekend markets...if you like to fix things, you can start by offering this service in your spare time...as long as you enjoy what you do & you are motivated, you can do just about anything.

Well.. it depends on the hobby obviously, and from there your skill and ability at that hobby.
If your hobby is drawing circles in the dirt with a stick, you might be the best, most skilled 'dirt drawler' there has ever been, but you will never make that into a job because no one will pay you for that.
On the other hand, I know some women that are very skilled at quilting, and make really good quality hand made quilted blankets and such. They make good money off it, and they love doing it.
Then sometimes you have a hobby that, you just simply are not good at. Maybe you make stone work, but you are simply not good at doing it. Doesn't matter if everyone needs stone work done, you'll never make much because you are just not good at it.
So the answer to your question is, yes it is possible. But you need to have a hobby that other people are willing to pay for, and you have to be good enough at it for them to pay you.

Yes it is possible to make hobby as profession. To success in any profession we have interest in that profession. Interest and hobbies have not much difference. In the begging we start suffering only to pass our time, it is our hobby but in later many people adopt suffering as profession. It is not possible that we are happy in what we are doing. Some time we have to do some work which we d'not like. I am an qualified accountant. At present I am running a photo copier shop. I don't like it but I have to do it to earn my bread. I am disable person so I am not fit for my main profession.

Some people do manage this. I expect that many of us have hobbies that we could never make a living from. Perhaps that's why they are just hobbies!

I do love my job. I'm currently working exactly where I wannabe. I'm in the line of technology and customer service.
Hobbies can definitely be a profession like those tattoo artist, graphic and web designers, sports personality maybe (if you call that profession). Car dealers for those who are into cars. Actually it is better if your profession has something to do with your hobby. Why? Because you won't get bored easily and you will not be thinking of your salary or profit alone 'cause you enjoy what you do. Like you're just playing and not noticing your payday. ^_^

I am a nurse by profession, but am getting tired with it. My hobby is gemstone collecting and jewelry making. I do sell some of my pieces but can hardly call it a profession. Someday I would love to be a GIA certified gemologist.

It's very possible but depend on your effort. There're a lot of people who is success with their proffesion that began from hobby. You reall need to dig what you can do and what you like to do to finnally chase your dream and be success.Profession which is come from hobby will give you more energy to achieve because you have extra antusiasm.I love writing and now I try to make my hobby become my passive income.

I think it's definetly possible, but it's necessary a lot of hardwork and discipline. My favorite hobby is poker and I want to be a professional poker player in the future. Maybe one day that will become reality, I'm trying hard to do that.
But, of course, while I'm still not a professional player, I'm studying to have a good carrer in other area, in case of my poker plans don't work.

I think the most important thing to change your current job to something you really enjoy, especially when these two seem to have nothing connected, is courage and resolution. Only when u start to take action and stop inventing all sorts of excuses to to placate your ambition, you can finally realize your dream.

see first i would like to say you that there is nothing about making excuses here the thing is that can a person make his or her hobby as a proffession but it's not easy task to do circumstances are diffrent for every individual and he or she has to do what the situation demands for them but anyways thanks for the opinion though.
