My countrymen who lives in Cebu will surely agree and knows what I mean in here.
[b]ATLAS MINING (ACMDC-ATLAS CONSOLIDATED MINING and DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION)
was cited as one of the largest copper producing mines in the world (1970-1984)[/b
The Toledo copper mine commenced production in 1955 and over the next 30 years grew to become the third largest copper producer in the world.
In 1935 Atlas is listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) and was, until May 1995, listed on the American Stock Exchange (AMEX).
Why i wrote here that i lived the American way?..yes i do and i did.
I lived there with free house, free electricity,water,car,telephone,fuel/gas-cooking,clubhouses (thu some amenities got to be paid, but still cheap)and a lot more.
Not to mention the free hospitals /free everything from meds to doctor's PF.
This company is owned by a Filipino- Don Andres Soriano and run by an American/co-stocks share.
Until the late Don Andres Soriano 111 died ,in 1982.
The Board of Directors has to changed and are run by a Filipino.
I am not blaming who's to be blame,i was too young by that time and don't understand much what is going on.
But one thing i understand, the Mining is dying within that 2 years period of new directors...and my grandfather who works as a Mining Engineer was forced to resigned and other 90 percent of Atlas employees.
This is just a glimpse of how good the life i live under the American government in that place called Toledo(Cebu)
And i am sure...Filipino mylotters who lives there can prove what I am saying (anyone who lives there?)
Don't accused me of having American dream or whatsoever my countrymen,I am just pointing some truth about the goodness those people has/have done in our country during their stays...not to mention the big loss when the American naval base was removed from Bataan.

Nothing wrong with having a dream.
American, chines, bulgerian and whatnot.
Your life, your dreams, your choices.
I just wish the philippines will still be there for me to come and enjoy the islands though.

It was reopenned amiga but not Atlas anymore. It has it's new name now called, Carmen Copper Corporation. And I guess they are still having that American way of living out there. My Uncle who was a teacher at Andres Soriano Memorial College(where Atlas workers children study) also avail the same. Faculty and staff are also given that privelege.

Hi Amiga!!!
If you can visit back the place, it would be great. The small City is already improving including the commonly called Atlas which is now CCC.

dear brother,
The company is trying it's best to live again
A major restructuring of the Company's assets was undertaken in years 2004 and 2005 with the creation of three special purpose subsidiaries to develop the Toledo Copper Complex, Berong Nickel Project and the Toledo-Cebu Bulk Water and Reservoir Project. As a result, Carmen Copper Corporation (CCC), Berong Nickel Corporation (BNC) and AquAtlas Inc. (AI) were incorporated and, subsequently, were positioned to attract project financing as well as specialist management and operating expertise.
In addition, Atlas incorporated a 100%-owned subsidiary, Atlas Exploration Inc. (AEI), to host, explore and develop copper, gold, nickel and other mineral exploration properties. AEI will also explore for other metalliferous and industrial minerals to increase and diversify the mineral holdings and portfolio of Atlas.
Today, Carmen Copper Corporation is 54.46% owned by Atlas and has been successfully rehabilitated to become the country's largest copper exporter.
And i checked the board of directors...good to see 2 Americans were there

I like that phrase "a glimpse of how good the life i live under the American government in ... Cebu" :)
My grandparents always told me stories how great the Philippines was before the 1946 Independence. We were one of the best countries in Asia then.
And honestly, having an American Dream is really really okay, despite what those pessimists say. We Filipinos line up at the US embassy to have that better life in Los Angeles or San Francisco, for ourselves and our families. If we had that here in Manila, we wouldn't leave our families anymore right?
Our country deteriorated so much after the Americans left. I too want the bases back (Clark, Sangley, Subic, Bataan, etc.) Correction. I want more than the bases. I want the entire American Government back running this place.
It's my American Dream, shared by all of those at the embassy, and the long lines of people watching the latest Hollywood blockbusters at the mall. It's the dream your relatives in Las Vegas and LA have right now. Because we know, despite the economic problems America has today, it still is a very good country to live in, even if China replaces it as a superpower.

hello warrior,
I also wonder why some of our countrymen raise their eyebrows when they heard someone wishing or talking "American dream" and called them "white wash".
When in fact, what are the trends followed by youths and kids in our country were of western and not our own aint?
The songs, dances, the movies..and yes, people in queue everyday in American embassy hoping to have those green card and reached uncle Sam's big spender city.
Not to mention the English language that we Filipino's acquired from westerns...aint we should thankful from them?
See how call center industry is now dominating and giving us employment...whether we accept it or not,we will never get out of the uncle Sam's shadow...
Why not give them a chance to run our country ...sometimes i wish.
what do you think buddy?
