I know lots of family and friends that have had to watch their loved ones be in agony while dying for days and months. It is awful to have to suffer such pain and having to watch your loved one be in agony and you just have to watch that happen because there is nothing you can do about it.I know there is pain medicine like morphine but my friends and family that have died and were in misery for days and sometimes months the morphine and all of the pain medicine didn't keep them from being in agony.
Animals that are in misery it is inhumane to watch them suffer but it isn't for humans. I think that there should be a form that the patient or if the patient can't sign it that their family can sign that gives the doctor permission to put the patient to sleep like they do animals so they don't have to suffer since they are dying anyways.I wouldn't want to suffer like people I've known have or to watch a family member suffer. It is very stressful on family members and the dying patient.
Would you be okay with a law like this or against it and why or what do you think of this.

I agree with you. It would make things a lot easier for the patient that is dying and the loved ones to not have to watch them suffer when they know they can't do anything more to cure them. They know they are dying anyways.Thank you for commenting!

Personally for me, it would really depend on the situation, and if there is nothing left for the doctors to do. I really think many people that continue to want to hang on either do it for Fear of being alone, or because they are not ready for that person to die, or scared because they may not know a God or know the person really is not ready. If more people would continuously put more Faith in God or a higher power as some call it, there could be a hope worth living for.

I'm not sure, but I think that is what the form they gave me when I went to the hospital the last time was for. There is a form a person can fill out saying that if they are not going to be able to recover that there should be no extreme measures taken to keep them alive. If they have a DNR (do not resuscitate)bracelet on that it is not permitted to do cpr or any other measure to keep them alive. They ask me if I have a form on file every time that I go to the hospital and I never do although I wouldn't want to be kept on life support for any reason. My mom was on life support for a week in the ICU and the first time she went into fibrillation they got her back into a normal rhythm. The second time, we told them to turn off the breathing machine. She was aware of what was going on and it really bothered me when one of the medical students made a comment about not being in the business of killing people. She was not responding to the antibiotics because of a staph infection in her blood and there was no way she was going to survive much longer anyway so why wast taxpayer money and prolong both her and our agony? I wouldn't just kill someone unless they were really suffering and had no possibility of any quality of life though.

its so hard to figure this. if its for sure, they are going to die anyway, maybe it would be a good law to make. that doc that got in so much trouble should not have, as he was doing a service to people. yes, it would be good i think. except, some people have survived so whats the argument for that like my cousin that was in hospice for 3 yrs. he came out and married and all and has lived 6 more yrs or so. thats a hard question.

That is a hard situation.I guess since some people make it when they are in hospice they might have to have there organs shutting down first before they can do that. All of the friends and family I know that was dying of cancer there organs were shutting down and they were in a lot of agony for days sometimes months after there organs wanted to shut down. The pain medicine wasn't keeping them from being in agony. It was awful for them and there family to have to deal with.Thank you for commenting and sharing your experiences. You have a good weekend!

Hi margeryann,
There is a form one can and should fill out no matter how healthy we are. It is call Health Care Directive or Living Will.
I actually did seven articles a few months ago for a brand new website. Which indicated the reason why one should have this form as if we were to be in this state then the form will be the legal document and it will speak for us as if we were the ones actually speaking for ourselves.
Here is a excerpt of one of the seven I did which explains:
"Health care directive’s and or Living will is a formal legal document that specifically lists how you would like to have your health care treatments carried out, at a time you are not able to speak for yourself. It will legally list the person you assign and or give power of attorney to give the final say as to what treatments you prefer. This person speaks for you and is well informed as to what you want and do not want in terms of medical treatments. The assigned person must be of minimum legal age as required by our states law to be considered and allowed to speak on your behalf".
The person assigned is speaking on our behalf and is completely informed of what we want and do not want in direction of our treatment and or termination. As hard as it sounds it is a really important document, in which everyone really should consider as laying in a bed in agony, will be too late for anyone to take control as then it will be strictly up to our doctor to decide. Therefore, one could be in a bed for weeks, months or years. With this form no one has any say outside what is listed in it. Most importantly the assigned person can speak immediately and say DNR, (Do not resuscitate), which then one would not be on life support and or the agony of being treated with the pain narcotic clinging on to a shred of brain stem life.
Having also experienced this wit a dying member of the family and no form in place. I can vouch on how stressful it is to see the loved one in so much agony. Therefore, yes I would be completely for the law if it were effective.

Thank you for your advice. It would be good advice to have a living will drawn up.A living will is kind of like what I think the other form should be like too. My husband when he was in the hospital with his heartattack he got scared when they asked him if he had a living will. He never heard of it before so it scared him. He said am I dying and started crying. He let me know that day on that he wants the hospital to try everything to make him live until they know that he won't make it.
It is very stressful to see a loved one suffer with agony.Cancer runs in my family so strongly and lots of members had to deal with this already it is sad that loved ones have to watch their loved ones be in agony when the loved ones know they are dying anyways because of not having a way to let them dye in piece- be put to sleep like they do for pets.Thank you for commenting.
