How do you get your books?

For the longest time I would buy my books for $2 or less on Amazon with gift certificates I earned through surveys or I would get them free from book services, but a couple of months ago when I was trying to find a solution to getting rid of some of the books I had accumulated I ran across Paperbackswap.com. Then I found Bookmooch.com. I think these sites are great. Every once in a while I'll go to the library, but I love these two book swap sites. Does anyone actually pay full price for books anymore?

I do. Not every time I get a new book, but I do prefer shopping for new books in store as opposed to anything else. If nobody did that then there would be no industry. I like knowing that my favorite authors are getting fed. They don't make a dime off of used sales and swaps... and they barely make a dime off new sales. If I can't afford to buy books new then I get them used or go to the library to borrow them.

You make a very good point about the industry not making any money off of used sales and swaps. That's why I try to buy the books of my favorite authors rather than swap them. Usually I go to Walmart or some place where the books are a little more affordable because even though I know that there's a lot of time and effort that goes into writing, editing, publishing, printing and shipping books, I still can't afford to spend more than a few dollars. As a writer myself, even though money is always great, it feels good knowing that many people have read and shared my work which they felt was good. Anyway, I have a combination of new and used books in my collection. It's just interesting to me seeing how people acquire some of their new things.

I used to be a member of some of the Book Clubs, and get books there are very good prices. These days, with the shortage of time to spend on reading regularly, I have left those book clubs. When I get the time, I would go to the Public Libraries, and read the books of my choice there.

Earlier this month I ordered five second hand books from sellers on Amazon in the United Kingdom. I paid very little per book but quite a lot for postage. They are books about exotic gardening in a cool climate. Some of the books were published a few years ago and new copies of these books are not available. One of the books arrived this morning. It is in like new condition. It is a wonderful book that I am delighted to have. A few days ago the book that cost me just one pence arrived. I am very happy with it and think what a bargain. I bought a few books at a vegan event I visited last month. I rarely buy full priced books because I see lower prices on Amazon in the United Kingdom. I really enjoy borrowing books from my local library and visit it at least twice a month. I hate getting late return book fines but it often happens. I must remember to renew the library books before their due date if I am still reading them.

Today most of the time I will buy my books from Amazon. Since the delivery is free of charge. And they will deliver the books to me soon. I am quite satisfied with it. Besides, Amazon always gives me good discounts and therefore I can buy my books in a cheaper price. I can also buy the books from the recommendation of Amazon. I can also check others' feedbacks towards the books. It is so helpful for me to select the books. This is why today I almost don't go to buy the books from the bookstore. I love China

I have not paid full price for a book in years. There are lots of great thrift stores in my area, and I usually visit several every week. My favorite ones to shop at are the Goodwill thrift stores. They have special discount days every week (senior citizens get 25% off on Tuesdays, students get 25% off on Sundays, and every Thursday certain colored sale tags are only $1) so I always check to see what they have in stock. I often find books that look brand new, and their books are all priced at $3 or less. My best finds over the last month were the two most recent J.D. Robb mysteries in hardcover. I used to do PaperBackSwap, but the titles I have on my wish list don't become available very often. Sometimes I use Amazon gift cards I get from SwagBucks to buy books. I was able to get all of the textbooks I need for my summer classes for only about $15 out of pocket that way.

I buy books from Amazon, too. I usually wait until I have enough gift certificates to order without paying shipping, so I feel like I get them free. I also go to the library now and then, but I shop for books at the local thrift stores and at garage sales. The last time I paid full price cash for a book was for a gift.

I am so glad I found you! We are soon to move to another country and I have a flat full of books I am having difficulty getting rid of them. I have tried selling some through Amazon, but it is slow. Paperbackswap sounded good, but it is only for people who live in the USA, but Bookmooch operates all over the world and one can even donate books, which is even something that its difficult to do! Thanks very much!

I only pay full price if I am giving it for a gift. I have found my local thrift store to house tons of books in decent quality and cheap. I still go to the library pretty frequently too, but the library is right next to the grocery store that i use most frequently. I run into the library and then go get my groceries.

I do. I still like to read with the feel of paper in my hands. I would buy latest computer books of interest. It doesn't make sense to read outdated technology. I do also borrow from the library. Printed books (and even ebooks) are getting way too expensive to keep my hobby for much longer.

I get my books on the road side. There are places on the busy streets of Nigeria where a lot of second hand books ( old and used books ) are sold. I do go there to shop for my favourite books anytime I am in town. These books are cheaper compared to the brand new one being sold at the book shop. I really love this second books, they are not very bad even though they have been used by someone else before.

I live in a small town and in a nearby town we have a hastings and I love to go in there and buy the books they have for like a dollar. I have such a good book collection now and when I don't want one ankymore I also use paperbackswap.com!!

It depends on the book. If it's something I'm really interested in reading I'll compare prices at Barnes & Noble and Borders and if they are too high I usually resort to ebay. I've found some great deals on books there, this new book that came out a couple of months back was going for $20-$25 everywhere (including amazon where I usually get discounts) so I looked on ebay and bought it for one $8! Gotta look around. I rarely pay full price for books because I know I can always find it a little less elsewhere.
