i consider songs good, when i have scanned their lyrics and found out the message of the entire piece. because in my perspective it showcase what the song really intends to syllabicate. but i have friends in college who doesnt care much of the lyrics, they used to tell me that the tune really is the language through songs talk.

It depends on the genre. I'd say mostly I am a lyrics person, if the song has fun or deep lyrics, I will love it forever no matter what it really sounds like. On the other hand, if a song has doublebass, a break down, or a ska sound to it I will love it no matter what. I just love music in general, I guess.

For me it's the tune...or the music. When I hear a song for the first time I'm paying more attention to what it sounds like than to what the words are saying. It usually takes me 2 or 3 times of hearing a song to decide if I like the music. If I don't like it the lyrics won't matter because I won't be listening to it to get their message anyway. One example is Rap music. I don't like Rap primarily because I don't like to hear someone "rapping." Also, much of Rap music is, in my own words, a redundant jungle beat. It's actually annoying. For me, the vocals, not the lyrics, are as important as the music itself. The singing actually compliments the music. But, in Rap the singing, or "rapping" is the most annoying part of it. Another kind of music that I really don't like is old country music. It's hard to put a finger on why but the music just don't appeal to me. The funny thing is that with many songs that I've liked over the years I've never been able to understand all the lyrics anyway.

I like the tune of it first, thats what gets me attracted to the song, then I actually listen to words of the song.If the tune is something i can dance to or gets me some kind of mood then I like the song.

Well, the first time that I ever hear a song I will always listen to the tune and will base the decision about whether I listen to it again on how much I enjoyed listening to the tune for the first time. Once you've heard the song once, you start to pick up on what the lyrics are, and then gradually you start to get the idea about what the song means, and more often than not you are able to relate it to a situation that either you've been in or a friend or family member has been in. This is what is so amazing about music, it truly does bring people together.

It really all depends. If it turns out to be a great beat, I sometimes don't think lyrics. Well, unless it sorta speaks to me. But if it's anything like today's rap... I tend to scrutinize them for the lyrics... XD;; But can you blame me? You really do listen and get the lyrics of it and... you get somewhat shocked at what they're allowing on radios and having children listen to, as a 17-year-old myself. Makes me concerned of what my little sister's listening to...

The music talks to me much sooner than the meaning of the lyrics. If the music doesn't appeal to me, I really don't care what the lyrics are trying to say. There are a lot of songs I'll quote, because they have great messages, but I won't listen to, because the music is lame (at least to me). On the other hand, there are songs that I really liked, but when I learned the lyrics, it ruined the whole song for me (Like John Lennon's "imagine"). But I can usually get passed lyrics I don't happen to agree with, if I like the music. Being a conservative Rock & Roller, I learned a long time ago that I wasn't always going to agree with my favorite musicians. ;~D

I would have to say the music is more important to me than the lyrics. I like songs by Rammstein that are in German, and Kaizer's Orchestra songs that are in Norwegian - despite not understanding either language.

For me, the lyrics play a big role for me to like a song. It is because it is the core of the music and it is where the listeners get their inspiration from. But sometimes, the tune also matters. Especially the tempo if it slow or upbeat because it will really affect the mood of the song. For example, if its a happy song, seldom we can hear a very slow tempo for it, usually it is upbeat. Also lyrics is the body of the entire music and it is where we can tell if the song has a sense.

I appreciate the songs with valuable lyrics. I like to penetrate in the meaning of the words. The tune and the voice of the singer also matters. Nice to listen to the lyrics that might be encouraging, might cheer me up.

It's both. If I hear a good tune, I definitely get into it. But if I see the lyrics are completely off, there goes the song for me...
