Why does people like being lonely even there are millions of reason to be happy?

i wonder why people i know tend to be sad just for people to take pity on them? is it really that good to feel their sympathy on their situation? what bothers me most is that why does those people instead of being happy in solving their problems they choose to be hopeless and search reasons for them to be self pity. as the famous filipino sayang says. "BA'T Ganun?
