Do you plan too much?

Are you an organized person? I mean as in your life. I find that I try to plan my whole life ahead of time (not really the whole thing but the whole week definitely) and if it doesn't go the way I see it in my head then I get down on myself and a little discouraged. I don't mean organized as clean and everything. I just try to make things go perfectly and if not then I have bad days like today...Ugh! So, do you plan too much of your life ahead of time? Is your life already planned out in your head? Or at least a day or two ahead? Is it every detail or just a few things? Do you get upset when it doesn't go the way you planned?

Hi! Believe me I hear you on this one as I too, get on myself. I think we compare ourselves to the seemingly ideal wife and it gets discouraging when we don't 'easily' accomplish everything we set out to do. The important thing is to communicate what is bothering you and to set out to realistically fix it. As a mother I have slowly come to learn that it's ok if not everything goes as planned so I limit what I can do per day. Do you have a calendar or some place where people go to schedule whatever is coming up? Lets say (hypothetically speaking) that your son has soccer practice on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and your daughter has ballet on Thursdays. Knowing that those are fixed events and time frames, try to limit two or three tasks (or whatever you can manage) of your own on those days. Why? You do get the feeling of accomplishment and you don't get discouraged if you get thrown off-track. Another way to help you is to ask help from your family and make sure the tasks are realistic for the age. Make a game out of it as you rediscover items long buried in whatever pile or perhaps invite them to talk about whatever is on their minds. My mother did and I loved those times. This may take some refining to get everyone to become involved and everyone does have to hold up to their end of the bargain. Also, try to see what you DID accomplish that week and be happy for what you did do. Hope this works! And hey--reward yourself when a task is finished!

Thanks for your response! I agree, I try to be the best I can be at everything and when I'm not it really upsets me. =( I do have a calendar for events coming up. I should do that. Make an easy goal that I know I can do so I feel like I did something great that day when I do it! Thanks so much for your thoughts! =)It was helpful.

There is no harm in planning. To be honest,I am like you, a planning freak. I tend to want to control my life and everything within it and steer it to my desired direction. However, we cannot always also steer our environment to that direction. That's where lies the problem with planning. There should always be a balance on planning and being just plain spontaneous or natural. To be successful in life you got to be both. Planning is always a good thing because this means that you have a set goal, objective or purpose that will drive you further. Most successful people plan ahead. But please do take note that you also need to be adaptable and ready to adjust if your plans go disarray. I do get upset when things I have planned goes the wrong way, but I don't let it got through me. If things don't go as planned, then consider planning again. That's just the simple truth in life.

Hi there both of you! I suggest you shouldn't worry too much if your plans go in a different direction. That's life. We commit mistakes, we make wrong calculations and of course we aren't perfect. Motivate yourself that at least you give an A effort on planning and that you dare to try and carry out the plan. Worrying too much is the downfall of planning. It will stress you out to be out of focus with your plans. To be honest, I got a fair share of those mistakes and worries too. I found out that the more I worry, the more things go wrong. So the bottom line in here: stop worrying, it won't do you any good. I hope my advice helps!

Thanks for your response! There's no harm in planning I agree but it is an issue when you get really disappointed when things don't turn out the way that you planned them. =( I am very adaptable when it's someone else that has messed things up a little bit because then it wasn't my fault and I am forgiving of other people way more than myself.

I like to have some plan for my week, but I also know that many things can change that and I can't always stick to it. Matter of fact, just today I have had to change plans as I forgot about a baby shower. The next few weeks for me are fairly planned as we will be doing the county fair with my daughter showing horses.

Thanks for your response. Yeah the more I plan the more it seems to go the opposite way.

I don't make solid plans because life gets in the way. I just have tentative plans in my head. Sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't.

Honestly speaking i dont plan much for my weeks, I dont have the habbit of planning, but i strongly feel that planning makes a person perfect in his life, Its good thing that you plan for the weekend, Well if i plan i certainly plan for a particular day and that too it doesn't happen accordingly it happens according to the situation. I sometime plan and sometimes it happens according to the plan, If we make a particular plan for a day and follow accordingly iam sure things will work out fine for us. Its just we have to remain committed to it.

I wish I can do that, but as you can see, I am not an organized person in almost everything. I am more of a come what may, or crossing the bridge only when I get there. I know that there are people who plan and organize all aspects of their lives and I envy them.

I think a lot of things. Seriously. 'Till I fall asleep my subconscious mind is thinking of something that makes me have a dream or sometimes nightmare. I'm an independent single woman. I'm all alone and I take care of myself 'cause nobody else will if I don't so I've got to plan my daily routine, my short and long term goals in life. My lifestyle, my diet, health, budget, style, work and all that. I often don't plan very detailed like exact time and exact location 'cause if it fails then that would definitely make me upset. Though I'm used to having my plans doomed. I guess best thing to d is to have plan A-Z! :)

Thanks for your response! Yeah I am the same way but it comes with a lot of heartache. It is best to have back up plans for every plan you make just in case it doesn't work out.

I like to be organised and have a plan for the days, weeks and months ahead of me. If I do not have a plan I begin to worry about what's coming next in my life, so having a plan is definitely the best thing to do. I certainly know what I am doing tomorrow and for the rest of the week ahead. I also have a slightly longer term life plan but I am unsure as of yet whether I am going to be able to carry those plans out, as they are a bit extreme and require a large amount of money that I just don't have at the moment.

I'm not the kind of person who makes too many plans,I generally do if\ for the next day or days, but not for a longer time.I realized that even if I plan something well from time, there are events which make life unpredictable and completely change my plans,so I don't bother planning too much and I don't have patience to pay attention to details,I prefer to keep my head busy with more exciting activities like posting on Mylot!

I was like this before and it was not good for me. Often times when things do not go as planned, it really is frustrating to me so my mood is really affected. As I go on with my life, I realized that things will happen and most of them are beyond my control so why bother setting things up if they will never work that way in the first place? I just enjoy my life now whatever comes in to it.

Thanks for your response and your right it's not good at all. I know it isn't. I take things too seriously this way and it only hurts me and gets me down.

I kind of have a plan in mind, but it's not written in stone. There are always changes. I don't get down on myself though because life is sort of fluid. There are ebbs and flows that come with life. If my plans don't pan out I just live with it or find another way to make a plan happen.

Thanks for your response! I agree it's better to not get so set on one plan because if it doesn't work out it's upsetting of course. I need to try to go with the flow more.
