I thought that Gerri had eaten them, but I was wrong.
She moved the other babies back to the other side of the tank today.
I think she left those 2 out of the nest when she moved them over the first time, as I found them close to where the old nest used to be.
It's sad, but at least I know that they're not in the tank anymore when the other babies start getting out of the nest.
They were so tiny compared to what the babies look like who are all growing nicely right now.
R.I.P little ones.

That's nice. She's just protecting her babies.

How is killing them protecting them? That doesn't make any sense to me.
If she killed them because she knew she couldn't nourish them, then I'd consider that a mercy killing.

I had two gerbils, Thank God mine were both boys, mom had gerbils when she was younger and they didn't know they were male & female, they came home from school one day and there was 12 instead of just 2...... LOL gerbils are amazing pets though.

When we got ours, we were told they were both male, but the previous owners were wrong.
Now we'll be checking before sending them to new homes to make sure that they're same sexes.

Were those two smaller than the others were when they were born or can you tell? Perhaps they weren't able to get to mom to nurse so they didn't survive. If there were too many babies for her to feed them all that sometimes happens. I've heard of it happening with litters of puppies if there were a large number. I hope the rest continue to be healthy!

Awww...poor little things. They never stood a chance. I'm glad though that you finally know what happened to them & that they were the only casualties. Hopefully the others will continue to grow & be healthy. I would love to see another photo of them as they get a little older. They are just so cute & adorable.
