Can't find the new kitten..

Yesterday afternoon I adopted a 10 week old kitten and brought her home. She hid in her carrier most of the day and when she came out, she ran behind the fridge. We got her out from behind the fridge and then she hid in her carrier again. Then last night she hid behind the washer and that's where my Mom found her this morning. Mom didn't want her behind the washer so she prodded her out with a duster, and the kitten ran off.
Now we don't know where the kitten is. I feel like I've looked everywhere. Everywhere I can think to look and even a few hundred places where I wouldn't. My friend who has several cats of her own tried to reassure me that she would come out when she was hungry, but I'm just so worried. I haven't seen or heard any sign of her.
Ever lost a kitten? What did you do and were you able to find them or did they come out? How long did it take them to come out?

2 years ago I captured a feral mom cat and her 3 kittens.
the mom cat went right out to a stable after her spay and proceeded to obliterate the mouse population...
After being locked in my bathroom for over a week with no sign of calming (and because I need to sit to shower and couldn't do it with kittens in the shower) I let them out of the bathroom since they were not taming in the least... We didn't see any of them for a week, but we knew they were eating - now they lay calmly when we see them at a distance, but they run if they think we can touch them.

Well she spent most of her life in a foster home so she shouldn't be an untamable feral kitten. I guess probably should have locked her in the bathroom though. Too little too late for that though.
So the kittens (undoubtably cats by now...) still hang around? Or was that just for a little while? How did you know they were eating?

Oh, well I guess they eventually came a bit closer. Probably just cause you had food. lol
I found the kitten by the way.

You wouldn't be the tiny places kittens can hide in and as long as you know she is still in the house, I am sure when she gets hungry, she will come out..My daughter has a cat now for over 5 years and she still hides, probably some traumatic event that happened while she was a stray. Anyways, even if the kitten did get out, depending on your neighborhood, she'll come back. Once my daughter's cat got out and we looked everywhere, only to find her later in the evening outside, she had somehow escaped during the day, but she was fine..

There really isn't any way for her to get out.. and I hope and pray she hasn't found some nook, cranny, or hole to the outside that I don't know about! She's only lived with us for all of 24 hours... I don't know that she would know how to come back if she got lost, and there are coyotes around that would eat little kittens. I'm just really worried. I've wanted a cat forever and now that I've got one I've totally lost her already.
I'm jumping at every sound, thinking I've heard a meow.

I found her! She started meowing in the evening, and I found her between the couch and a bookcase, under the bookcase. We spent some quality time together and I moved her to a room with fewer obscure hiding spots. Hopefully I won't lose her for so long again. lol

Oh, that's so sad! I hope they were okay.
I found my kitten. She started meowing and I was able to locate her then. She's been fed and had some water so she's doing really well. Hopefully she won't hide in another obscure spot.

I had some lost kittens at home (domestic ones), just look for them in spots where they usually sleep and dark areas. This may sound weird, I say "meawwww" thing like their mother to call them out and they quickly make noise as I was their mother. :P
They may trapped in something, remember that they cannot jump in higher areas yet if they have fall off into.

Oh, she can jump pretty high already. She made it over some big boxes and into the area behind the washer just fine.
I found her... she started meowing all by herself. (though I did try doing some meows during the afternoon) She was in a itty bitty dark spot that I would never think to look. She's okay now. I confined her to a small room. Hopefully she won't pull such a grand disappearing act again.

I lost my kitten ones, turns out it managed to get into our garden and it stayed hidden behind our shed for at least 5 hours ! but finally it just came back in ( we left the door open ) so really your friend is right, don't worry it'll show itself when it's hungry

I found her in the evening. She started meowing, so she gave herself away. lol I'm really glad she didn't manage to get outside because that would have been disastrous in our neighborhood. We've got coyotes roaming around, and she didn't have her collar on yet (it's on her now) so she could have easily been taken for a stray.
I'm glad that kitten of yours stayed so close to home even when it did make it out! Thanks for the reassurance, even though I've found her by now. She might try this stunt again. lol

She did find a really great hiding spot! One I'd thought I looked in multiple times already. There was a couch and a bookcase back to back, and I'd looked between them and under the couch, but I hadn't looked under the bookcase. She started meowing in the evening and I found her then. She's confined in a small room now, so if she hides again then we'll have a smaller search area. lol
Thanks for your response! I'll be sure to check the dresser drawers next time. (hopefully there won't be a bad next time. lol)

Well, our kitten once escaped from our house and we found it a few days later tied by our neighbors a few houses away. They claimed it, not really knowing it was ours but returned it instantly when we explained and claimed it.
I think you're friend is right, it will eventually show up when it's starving. I just hope it will show up soon. I suggest playing with it more often and letting it get used to the people in your house so that it will start feeling at home and no longer hide away.

I'm pretty certain there's no way she could have gotten out of the house, so she's got to be around here somewhere. I just wish I knew where to look. And I hope she doesn't wait until she's starving to come out.

Oh the poor baby is so scared. I have had cats hide from being scared. Mine stayed hidden for 2 days before coming out. I think it will come out when it is hungry.

i have to suggest that the best place to look for you kitten is the place where water is present... i already solved this problem once.

I found her this evening... she started meowing (she sounded like she was in distress or crying) so I looked and was able to find her. She'd picked a really good hiding spot... lol. There wasn't any water around... it was really dry. But when she came out she lapped up a bunch of her water.
