My cousin offers me to join an MLM which is named TVI express in Philippines. I am not allergic to MLM, I just want to make sure it is legal and safe to Invest but when I check the internet, I can read a lot of complaints as the sign up amount is $250.00.
I told my cousin about it and she said someone sponsored her for this and is also their friend and is earning. I told her to be careful because this is like a Ponzi. The leaders will earn because they get money from those who sign up.
The question is, if I were you, how will you convince your family to stop venturing in such business. Why this type of business easily lures people to join even if the reg. fee is high?

TVI Express is a scam in the US, South Africa, China, Australia, Indonesia, Namibia, and more. I'll just cite some of the news you can check for yourself:
ABC2 News of Maryland, USA call TVI Express a suspected scam

China Arrested 3 TVI Express members for financial fraud (that's only one of many arrest reports)

It IS a Ponzi scheme. Hopefully these news articles will scare her straight. Remind her about SpeakAsia, another scam that swept up a lot of Indians.

thanks for the link, I gave her the links but she still insist, very stubborn. Well, I don't know what else to say. It's not a matter of convincing her, its a matter of her conviction now, not to scam other people.

Thanks for the link to the site kschang. It would help a lot. I will forward it to my friends for them to be enlighten. I was been a member of an MLM before named "Legacy" and after a year it was shut down. Maybe the government should look on this type of oppurtunity for it to stop scamming peoples. Maybe they will have to invest their time on the legitamate company like Avon, Amway or Hebalife.

It would be hard to convince people to stop venturing in MLM's since people running the business are good at it. They show the potential clients that even ordinary people (e.g. sidewalk vendors, janitors, messengers etc.) have earned lots of money by venturing in the business. If your family members are professionals and not earning enough then they will be challenged to surpass those ordinary people who made it big. They would venture in it even if the fee is so high just to prove that they are better than those other people who haven't even finished high school.

Yes, that maybe one reason to say, but most people I bump into says that those people who joins MLM are just mere losers because they can't afford to apply for a real job and earn.
It's okay to join networking as long as it is a member of Direct Selling Association, with SEC license and all and has been in the business for more than 10 years and is still growing. But this one, what I can only see online were complaint reports and not praise reports. Anyway thanks for your response.

Well as you said it might be or it is really a ponzi, If they are already earning from that site I think convincing them to stop is no longer possible but you could save others from being scammed by this company by telling or giving them a warning but before you do that make sure that you have the proof of it. Sometimes those complain we read from the internet are not sufficient to prove that a company is a scammed you can only tell it if you experienced it by yourself. Sometimes those negative feedback is only because some people are jealous or have a bitter with that company that is why they are spreading humors and gossip like that. You must judge wisely before you do such action because it may effect them in future too. Just imagine that you convince them to stop because you thought the site is not safe what if it was a real good company them your family member quit from it meaning he/she looses a great opportunity to earn good money right?

This is also one of my considerations. My kids wanted to join, but I told them to let me investigate further. True it is SEC registered and VAT certificated. It also can be searched via DTI on line search engine, under TVI Express Holidays Philippines, Inc.no address listed and no scope of business. These are government documents that prove the legality of the company, but does not guarantee the nature of the business whether its legit or fraud. Question is, is this company highly sustainable to meet its promises. As I researched the only site that published list of hotels with dates of check ins and outs but does not claim that these are their accredited hotels that honors TVI discount card, is Ms Clarisa Calingasan's twitter account. Further research of another proponent alleged founder Tarun Trikha's info will tell you nothing of his association with TVI. There's only one article wherein, he claims to be CEO of V2 Group which allegedly is a scam as well. But you can look him up via youtube attending and speaking to TVI grand launch or conferences in different countries including Philippines last August 2011. No actual physical address of his company in India or anywhere else, it's just virtual addresses. It is true that it pays 30k and 450k. But let's make a little math here. Before the company pays out 30k to just one person, you need to enrol 24 recruits @ 16,800 = 403,200. Incredible figure for those at the peak of the pyramid or the back of the pyramid!!!

I have seen and been presented with a lot of MLM or Networking business opportunities. And fortunately and gladly I wasn't lured into it. Why? For the mere reason that it promises a lot. And it's just too good to be true.
The same exact reason why I didn't bite on the bait is also the reason why a lot actually were lured into indulging into it. Some even gave their career up for the said business and after a couple of months (you'd be lucky if it would last for years) they'll be in a great mess. Why? Because it's just not real. The one's who's above the Pyramid, the ladder, the structure are the ones who benefited the most.
My friends, 4 of them have been a victim of such business I would just avoid mentioning the name, but they do regret joining such. It made them buried in debt, and now, they're actually paying for something they haven't much benefited. I was just lucky not to have joined it. Otherwise, I'd be in a total mess now. So if you're thinking into joining, try to think about it, over and over and over and over again.
Bless you. Good luck.

Hi Chuyins, well you are right, to think it over and research is better than to just jump into the water. Even if most people earn, it will never be for long. These types of companies don't have specific addresses.
I already warned her but sadly she was still stubborn to continue. I don't consider all companies with networking to be illegal. Some of the big companies with networking like Avon, Herbalife, Tiens, Amway, DXN are into the same band wagon, but they are registered and are very much legal, unlike this TVI express.

Well that would be her responsibility and when she comes to you later and regret, just be nice to her. At least you could also say, it's not that you didn't warn her. She was just stubborn enough to pursue such endeavor.
We must realize though that the law of nature is the law of life. That in most cases there will be no short cuts.
God bless. happy mylotting.

I have often held the view that online business that demand for sign up fees are likely to be scam. This is because they want to make money from you. Even though your friend may be earning it does not translate to the fact that you will also earn. This is because some scam site often pretend to be good only to turn back and steal from you. You got to be careful!

Thanks for your response Naija4real. Actually it was my cousin who joined since someone sponsored her. I will never join any business that I did not research first. This one is too much for a sign up and that is why I alarmed her.
