Report abuse option for your own comments?? What??

Okay so I understand why you can't rate your own comments, but why is there a report abuse option? I think that's strange. In what case would you ever need or want to report what you posted yourself? If you thought it was abusive you probably wouldn't post it and if you did, you wouldn't want it to be reported. Does anyone have any theories on this?

My understanding is that option was put there about a year or so ago because many experience internet lag here on myLot and there are times we can tend to put double posts. Using the report is not only for abuse, you see I have too experienced at time my own posts being double posted and from what I understand years ago many had to pm each other to tell others to report the double posting and it became a large request that we can report our own. There are some that at times accidentally post the wrong response to a discussion and will tell admin with the (!) to remove it for them, I think that is helpful as it may then become a misunderstanding amongst readers if the wrong post is placed. There is no issue with reporting our own double posting and in fact I prefer to report my own because this way it is not looked upon as if I were trying to do it intentionally. That really is the reason why many requested the feature not really to tell admin we are abusing. Unless of course someone rethought their post later, would be my guess.

I have done this a few times, but I never thought of using the report button. I just left it and figured they would delete one of them. Thanks.

We report abuse whenever we encounter abusive comments on our discussions. Much more , we could also be reported if we abuse on our responses to others' discussions. That way, abuse is prevented here at Mylot.

That wasn't the question. I know what abuse is and when to use it. I was talking about why we would report our own comment.

You don't have to report your own comment, because for you that is correct. No one in his own mind would incriminate himself.

Yes, this makes perfect sense and it seems so obvious now. I just never thought of that. I have experienced that glitch before, but I didn't know what to do about it. Thanks for the response. :)

Because there have been some cases where people got nasty or very weird. It is not for you to report yourself but other members! I think everyone has an opinion as to what is abusive, unappropriate, weird, etc. And that is where the button comes in. I have only had to use it once.

It is always useful to read previous responses This discussion is talking about the (!) that appears on our own posts and it IS for reporting them - as you can see above. It is useful to be able to report our own posts, instead of having to ask a friend to do so like was the case before this was added after the last upgrade.

What I think they are for is that if you post a response accidently more than once and if you do not like you response after posting on a discussion you could report it your self and asked it to be deleted I once posted the same response twice and reported it and said that it should be deleted because I had posted it twice and the next day it was deleted.

Yes, this seems to be the top use for the button. It saves people from replying to one of the duplicates and having it deleted, which is something we really don't want. Thanks. :)

It does save people from replying to duplicates but the bad part is that, they do not delete the response instantly they delete it when they see it it is around the time when they update their earnings, and by then some one might have commented on the responses.

I don't know the exact reason why it's there but I have used it once. I posted something and forgot to add a link to it which was very important and since we can't delete nor edit our posts, I reported it. That may be a reason as to why we could report our comments. Happ myLotting!

I’ve reported my own posts on a couple of times when I inadvertently posted the same post twice. I reported the problem and admin promptly removed it. I believe that is the idea of self-reporting...
