I just heard the news, A lot of people in the Philippines are hunting Gecko, because some says that scientist discovered some sort of medicine in that Reptile. I don't know the details yet on how and why but now I saw some sites which buy and sells gecko in a very large amount of money up to millions. Do you believe in that? Do you think it is right?

Yes, just today, the Dept. of Environmental and Natural Resources here in our place , Bicol Region warned everyone through a famous newspaper that anyone caught selling geckos will be punished by imprisonment of 3 to 4 days and fine of PhP30,000.00 and above. There are a lot of geckos here.
My oh my, my husband and i were just talking about it last night, because my friend was telling me that a Briton has just bought 3 geckos from their neighbor for PhP16,000.00 a piece. But it has to be at least more than a foot long.
So there goes, our chance of having PhP16,000.00 .

Yes,SIMPLYD is right, capturing and selling geckos is forbidden. They have once captured 1 sack containing around 200 geckos in the port of Zamboanga.I think thay are transporting it to Malaysia for medicinal purposes.

I heard of that too, but i guess having it passed through a lot of middle men until it reaches its most direct buyer, me as the seller would get lesser.
I think 1Million is an exaggeration. You know how it is with the news - exaggeration. It could just be hundred of thousands but not that.

I heard this few years ago. I don't think it is the ordinary gecko. There is a specific gecko they said useful for some incurable disease. And I think some people here make it their career in collecting this gecko, because it really pay a lot, like you said up to millions.

According to my friend whose neighbor had already sold geckos, it's the geckos alright that sometimes goes inside our houses.
Sometimes, geckos come inside our house specially our bedroom. I had to have our windows screened so they cannot enter our bedroom anymore. They have fingers that stick to the skin. Yikes!

Yup, I have heard about that.
I guess it's true that Geckos have medicinal value and if it can save a person's life, then we could sacrifice a few geckos. But it should be regulated, people should not kill geckos here and there just to earn money Respect for all living things should still be exercised.
I do not think I would ever have the heart to catch a gecko and sell it. I will just earn money some other way, thank you very much

Wow if this is true, I have them running all over my front and back porches.
We love to watch them sit. sometimes they will fit in between the siding on our house. At night they will peek their heads out.
They are very funny to watch.
Guess I will have to on a search and see if I can find out more about this
I live in Florida and we have tons of geckos here.

There are always animals with some medicinal value to them, but it's not always true with what it claims to be. It's the same for tiger, ox, snakes and many more. Whoever jump into those rumours, wasting their money and effort in buying geckos, are plain naive. I wonder what's going to happen if cockroaches and rats are high in certain nutritional value, would anybody bother to spent millions buying them?

It's wrong. The geckos should remain to stay in the wild because environmentalists are concerned that while the reptiles are not yet endangered, they play a major role in the ecological system. I did not know that they are being hunted in the Philippines, I thought that those reptiles came from Indonesia where they are mostly abundant in the forest and they are being exported to other countries.

I don't know why people are so apt to hurt another living creature just to prolong their lives maybe one or two years at the max. I guess they are afraid of dying and want to outlive everybody, which won't happen anyway. I live in Hawaii and the Gecko are all over the place and good luck catching one!

I am also hearing about this news spreading all over the city where i lived.
Some people going to provinces to catch geckos and take care until it reached the desired weight the buyer posted in somewhere on the net.
I don't know is those sites are really legit or just scam.
Let's see what happen next.
But poor geckos, what if it is not true,..what happened to those poor creatures?

I have heard about that about 3 months ago! I live in the Metro so no Geckos here! Anyway, I can tell you that people are REALLY buying it because I actually talked to some people and they are offering cash if I bring them those Geckos. About it's potency, I am not sure, but maybe it is effective that's why it is so in demand and very expensive. It is said to be a cure for cancer! But we can't be sure until it is proven many times.

I saw it once in sulit.com that Koreans are buying such specie so expensively. Due to the high cost of living and the need for money, i am afraid that the Filipinos will be selling them for the money. Geckos are small to average size lizzard which has unique vocalizations, they are seen in the Philippines and are called Tuko.

Here is a site to prove such doings.. It's sad news because soon these geckos will be endangered.
