Dream theatre recently switched drummers from Mike Portnoy (founder of the band) to Mike Mangini. Portnoy actually wanted that the whole band took a break for a couple of years but the other guys of the band were'nt to happy with that idea. They went looking for a new drummer and found Mike Mangini. It's hard to say which one is the better drummer, they're both soooo flipping good. I'd like to know your thoughts about this !! Thanx
Have fun

I just LOVE Mike Portnoy and I am sad to see him leave the band. He has skills that takes years and years to perfect. I haven't really seen or heard enough to appreciate and compare the two drummers but the fact that DT has already made their pick means that the new guy has the chops to make it.
My brother showed me a video on Youtube and I only saw the part where they were all TRYING to make a decision. I can't imagine what that's like, choosing between two talented drummers.
Having said all that, I hope that Portnoy makes more music and that DT pushes the limits of their creativity!

Well as I can see, the new drummer is good in terms of skills and everything, he can actually do the drum beats well but the reputation built by Mike for the band is definitely something this new drummer still have to prove. The same coordination, blending of skills is still a thumbs - up for me for the newer tracks they have without the former band mate, Although we still have to admit that no matter how good a band is and no matter we as fans wants them to stay that way, band members will always come and go. We can't still deny the fact that they may have different goals in life as much as we adore them as a whole. Being a fan is sometimes frustrating, but we can still voice out our opinions, but it doesn't mean we can force the members to stay if they want to quit. Sad but true.
