Did it return the compliment?
Up until now, it couldn't! We know that they understand about a hundred English words, & to some degree, can understand sentence structure, but only now has a way been devised for humans to talk in their language!
Go see this: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/translation-technology-may-let-humans-speak-with-dolphins/
The technology requires a waterproof computer, & I'm sure, loads of patience. But, oh! The very idea that we could finally, once again, have true conversation across species, the first since the Adamic era, with the possible exception of certain apes trained in sign language? Wow! That is such a thrill to me!
How about you? Does this excite you? And if you could speak to a dolphin, what would you say?

Actually, I did try..they were too far though. :) I was told that dolphins have this mystical healing power - I mean they are able to make sounds at a frequency that helps to heal some part of the brain..whatever. So when I went to Goa this March, I did try asking them to do that. I dont know if they did it Maggiepie. :)

Sounds fun, Mags. I'd be happy just to swim with them like they do at Monkey Mia. Now, that would be fun!
