Should you listen to your conscience if your gf/bf is using emotional blackmail

The title says it all. My ex gf always used emotional blackmail on me to get her way, until the time we broke up, she still did that. She was good in turning the tables on me. Now I really don't know why I gave in to her everytime. Was it my conscience or is it emotional blackmail? Are these 2 the same?
