Affluence is everyone's right, poverty is a state of mind. We have heard so many rags to riches stories (and riches to rags ones too). What do you think? Please comment.

I´d say: "No comments". There´s 2 billion undernourished people in this planet and the worst part is that there´s enough for everyone. You are rich and so am I. You can read and write and are tated in a comfortable place while electricity for a computer is a given. Probably, if you are thirsty, you will go an get what your heart desires. Hot coffee or tea (clean water, electricity or gas), or you will open without even thinking about it your fridge to get something cold and nice. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Go and check a site sponsored by the WFO (Worl Food Organization) of the United Nation. The name of the sie is freerice.
Welcome to mylot!

Yes there are a lot of rags to riches stories, but there are even more people who are stuck in what is called a poverty cycle. When you are born into a poor family it is hard to get out of it. You may not be able to afford food, so if the child gets a job they might have to spend all their money taking care of their family, instead of saving for college/university. Also if they are poor their parents probably don't have money to send them to college/university so they have to come up with the money themself somehow.

for3verfamous...appreciate your point of view. Well tell you what...I come from a middle class family and though my parents could afford my education, I still took a loan for higher studies. I have a good job now. I can easily pay off my loan installments. But again, I stay in a different city with my wife, away from my parents' home. So I have to fend for myself, pay the bills, grocery, etc. Much more disadvantageous and costlier than people living with their folks in the same city and earning from a good job (they have fewer expenses and can afford to save much more). Also, though my wife works too, she too had taken similar loan for her studies. And she has to send money home to her mom and brother.
Sure there are hardships in my life, but then I started looking for alternate income sources. I write blogs, sell handicraft stuff on eBay, freelance and participate in online income programs. With a positive attitude, patience and hard work I believe you can see sunnier days :)

Yes I do believe it is a state of mind. The ego comes from the mind and it is never content with anything. Money is not wealth. Money is just pieces of metal with carvings or pieces of paper with drawings on it. It holds no real value. The greedy should take into consideration the fact that if they have all the money, the money will eventually be rendered worthless. Money and possessions can not be taken with you when you die, but love, wisdom, and truth are timeless. I have seen men in suits and expensive cars that felt very lonely, sad, angry, etc. I have also seen people in clothes from Walmart, riding the bus who are very nice and always smiling, much love in their hearts. So what does it truly mean to be poor?

I love your conclusion!Seems to be true and sensible. But the problem is not everyone get a chance, opportunity, and a tituation that allows it to not be poor. Indeed we see many people who deriberately made poor by the situation so made by the owners of capital and economic authorities.
If it so, what can be done in your opinion?

I agree. Some people have it easy, or so it seems. But its also true that everyone has problems in their life. And the funny part is, everyone thinks that his/her problems are very critical. We look at ourselves and think...no one will understand how big my problems are...they seem to be insurmountable. But the truth is, everyone is thinking the same...regardless of age, social standing, power, etc. Its just how you deal with your problems, weaknesses and shortcomings in life. Its about your attitude towards life. Its about the winning spirit. For inspiration, there are so many biographies of some great men and women to read. Each one of them has had their own struggles in life. They have overcome them and made it BIG!

Well in my opinion it does so make a difference if your parents have money or not. As an example, my husband parents are wealthy, mine were poor. He did not have to pay for his study, he just lend the car of his mother all the time, they went on vacation, he got his driverslicense paid for. I paid for my own study and books, paid for my own driverslicense, we never went on vacation or eat out, I had to buy my own car.
This makes a difference in several points. He had the money to save, he lived at home while working so het got to save up. I did not have the money to save up, school is expensive and most of my money went there and pay for housing. A positive of my history is that I am more mature, know what life costs and think about my spendings while he just spends it like water..
Although the difference in background, we both had the same chances to succes, the only difference was I took a hard way, while he had an easier ride. If you want it, you can get it, hard or easy way!
