are you in a diet?.. but CAN't live without rice in the table?.. well, your lucky cause i have a solution for that..instead of white rice substitute it with BROWN RICE because the different between two is that the white rice has only starch left while the brown rice has a brown skin. which have a lot of dietary fiber which is,the key ingredient and nutritious value intact such as vit. b6, manganese, phosphorus, iron and other nutrients. So, in this case, eating a food high in fiber such as BROWN RICE takes up a volume in your stomach and by that, keeping you full longer but you eat less.To consider that having a high fiber diet need alot of water consumption.and this is a FACT!

hi Princess thats funny I just mentioned to my husband he should get us some brown rice please next time he shops for rice. As I am diabetic I find it more convenient to eat rice than potatoes or pasta so often right now we end up with rice. I wonder whether there is parboiled brown rice available here and will sure check this out as I hate the fact that brown rice needs such a lot of time to cook

just saw you are from the Philippines so I know Rice is staple food for you over there. Interesting to know that even in your home country people tend to eat more white than brown rice obviously. But I think with the healthy way you eat there for sure there are few overweight people and few with diabetes.

its absolutely true, its the dominant food here in the Philippines and most of my fellow men are using white rice. The fact that, white rice is cheaper and easy to cook than brown rice.Still, their are many people here experiencing overweight and diabetes.Perhaps of exposing in the fast food chains.

Hello princess, I'm not in a diet but I'll still post anyway.
Yes brown rice is healthy but it comes with a hefty price. All the healthier versions of foods cost a lot. Take grape fruit for example. It has more vitamins than suha, thus it costs a lot more than suha even though it's smaller.

i am currently in a diet, not because i want to get thin but for the reason that i have a high insulin level. i was advised by my endocrinologist to limit my rice intake to one cup for breakfast, half for lunch and no rice for dinner. this is really a big sacrifice because i am a rice eater. i was actually researching if brown rice is healthier than the regular rice. i read somewhere that brown rice has a lower glycemic index compared to white rice.
you discussion is very helpful and made me reconsider switching to brown rice.

My husband has this nasty habit of buying instant white rice while I'm constantly after him to buy brown rice. I do know it's a lot better for you, just like whole wheat pasta is better for you as well. I think I"ll take over the rice-buying from now on :-p

I always have been eating brown rice when I was young as my mum is a health conscious women. But my mum doesn't just cook plain brown rice, She will mix a little white rice with some brown rice and making us eat it while telling me and my siblings about how important it is to keep oneself healthy. How I miss those times back then.
