Hello Lotters,
This is definitely happening, though i don't know why it didn't happened during the peaceful times. the last time that United States Navy had a drill with was with South Korea because of tensions that has happened between the North and South after the South korean Destroyer sunk down by a North's Submarine killing the crew.
Now, the tension is within Chinese Government and both Vietnam w/Philippines because China is now claiming the WHOLE islands as theirs. with that the US wants to have a dialogue and cool on conversation in the Hawaii. but now i see a Naval Drill with the OLD Philippines and fairly New and Advance United states in terms of Naval Warfare.
US Military is all around are they?

Hello mantis Nice try i think that would have make a good joke out to those die hard militants who doesn't want US. in fact some of them are Communist by protest and not arms. can you imagine the support they will be getting if China started invading the country, NPA will be eyes and ears

hello LN, those war drills had been taking place many times long before that Sokor ship's sinking or the latest tensions in the Spratly, it's part of CARAT or Cooperation Afloat Readiness and training, actually it is like "balikatan" war exercises and were held several times already since 2008 in places like Cebu, Subic and Palawan , this is the second time it would be held in Palawan, I wonder why there again, the Americans also sponsor CARAT like drills that involves the region and we do it together with our Asean friends and neighbors.

Hello louivill,
the only war drills that I've been aware off was with the Veteran's forces agree ment. i didn't think they continuously had a naval drill with the Philippine Navy. well, it's more popular and it's more demanding now because of the situation.

no friend, I beg to disagree, think it started way back 1996 and was planned much earlier after the Americans left their bases here, I agree with you that it is being highlighted more now because of the tension in the Spratlys., You can read about the earlier CARATS here http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/carat.htm

This will show a very good display of alliance between The US and our country. This is a subtle way for the US to tell the world that the Philippines is under their wing. I just hope China won't see this negatively since we have good ties with them. Territory dispute is not something that would easily sever a solid relation between age-long-friends like China and our country.

Yes, it is. And all the while posing to be the big brother alwats ready to give a hand to his poor little brothers. I wonder how the present government is reacting to these "offer" and will it be another jumping little boy, happy to be rescued by his big brother Sam?

I must admit it, I view it as America's business. Yeah, one of the biggest investments of the US government is strengthening their Arm Forces/Military forces. I am thankful though for the alliance US have with the Philippines, and for standing with us in this conflict. But still, I hope for a peaceful resolution with China, and avoid any war that would lead to a lot of casualties including LIVES... Hope for PEACE!

Hi LetranKnight,
They are Our Liberators. Thanks that America is part of our History. Here in Cordillera, you can see lots of Americans.
Regarding the Spratly Islands which I am sure are the ones you are talking here, most of the islands lies nearer to our Land.
We pray that not only the US will mediate on this but also God.
Thanks
Dennis

Hello farmerson,
It's not that i don't agree with it, it's just that United States has a lot of problems right now. oh, well with having a lot of Filipinos in the US, i think it's justifiable to be helped by a bigger and still militarily stronger ally, which has been for half a century

Yes they are. I grew up knowing that there was a Subic Naval Base and a Clark Air Base. My dad was in the US Navy for more than half his life. When I was a kid in the 80's, there weren't any diapers in the supermarkets in south Manila and so we had to go allll the way up to Subic and Clark just to buy diapers for my brother.
I didn't really understand the hullabaloo about closing the bases, but from my dad's point of view, it kinda helped the economy and provided jobs.
With the latest Naval drills in the Philippines, I think that it'll do the Philippine military some good. It'll surely be a learning experience at the very least.
