I asked God for signs

I will not go into details but right now, let's just say that I am standing at a crossroad. Not knowing which path to choose. I read a write up in the internet one time which spoke against asking God for signs. That it is an act of faithlessness. One way to ease yourself out of a dilemma is to always consider which goes in accordance to His will. If the other option violates one or more of His commandments, then you have the answer. Simple strategy of elimination. If both your options are against God's laws, then change or reformulate them. Sounds easy. But not. And still I ended up asking for a sign. Do you? Do you think it's just fine with God to ask him for signs to help in decision making?

I don't know that asking for a sign is an act of faithlessness, but I believe that you found good advice in that internet article. Remember that the time of miracles has passed.

Your statement was why the miracles ceased. My statement gave the how.

The ability to perform miracles was given first to Jesus as proof that he was God's son. He then passed them on to his Apostles to prove that they had been chosen to start this new era, the Christian Congregation. Once the complete Bible had been written and mankind had come to accept the Christians, there was no more need for miracles. Hence, the Apostle Paul said that these gifts would be done away with. 1Corrinthians 13:8

and to take a note too that everything that a God can do is for the Satan can do also except for one thing...... therefore.... if you notice God's signs.... you are not so sure if that signs is really came from God or from Satan.... but the signs that came from Satan is much more to believe and seems more to trusted rather than came from God.... signs like those of: 1. Santa Claus 2. Santo Nino 3. Apparition 4. Dancing Sun 5. Black Nazarene 6. etc..... try to think about it before making a counter comment.... since Satan is the king of lies.... to take a note of....

these 6 signs you mentioned here, I don't think they're evil, or at least they were intended to be. But yes, you can be right that Satan uses even Godly images, objects or instruments to realize his cause. Santa Claus was never made to be evil, but with too much capitalization on this North Pole gift giver, people forget the real essence for Christmas. Apparitions and Dancing Suns are actually investigated by, I think, the Vatican to verify if such an event can be accounted for as truly miraculous or just a hoax or some freak of nature that defies physics. I highly disagree that the Santo Niño and Black Nazarene are evil. Santo Nino is the representation of Jesus as a young boy. And as for Black Nazarene, I don not know its history but for sure, devotion to it drwas us closer to God so I don't think it's evil.

With all due respect, mantis, those are all shallow, superficial and (sorry), stupid way of telling whether something or someone is demonic in nature. Don't get me wrong, I too abhor the idea of Santa Claus gaining more popularity than Jesus Christ, who is and should be the reason why we celebrate CHRISTmas (not Xmas). All those issues you have against Santa Claus, that's just some crazy stuff circulated by people who have nothing to do. People give meaning to things, even the ones that are nonsense. Satan is a mystery just as the Triune God is a mystery and it is rather very shallow for us to believe that just because a character wears red, laughs Ho Ho....enters the chimney, has the same letters as Satan's, that he is automatically of Satan. If we have that idea of Satan, then we cannot recognize his real sinister works when they come because we are busy looking the wrong way. If you insist, then I say, we all burn those who wear red! Please research on the origin of Santa Claus and you will understand why he got his name, what he really originally embodied, and that the "scandals" thrown his way are only results of people trying to make business out of the icon. Rome rejects many things because let's face it, the real evil is on people trying to fool other people for money. TAKE NOTE: THOSE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN HAVE TO WEAR RED TO BE CAPABLE OF SINNING! Imagine if Pope John Paul approved everything, we would all be on a pilgrimage to some fake Statue of Saint this and that. Injuries during the feast of Black Nazarene: Is it the Nazarene's fault if people have no discipline, no consideration and no manners? For me, we all different ways on expressing our devotion. Nobody forced these people to go there and risk their lives. God hears our prayers wherever we are. But they chose to go there, and so they chose their own fate. The first commandment is true and righteous. But the Catholic's devotion on the Saints, on Mother Mary, Sto. Niño, Black Nazarene, etc is not an act of idolatry simply because idolatry means worshipping other gods beside God. FYI, we do not worship Mary, we do not wirship the saints. We don't pray to them. All it really is is to seek intercession. Example, a guy is very attracted to a girl. Of course he can go directly to her and tell her his feelings. OR he could approach the bestfriend, or the brother, or the family, to be your bridge. It's just like that with us and Mary and the saints and the angels. Idolatry is when we overdo these activities and forget the Almighty Father. Idolatry is when love of money, or material wealth, comes before praise and worship to God. I hope I have made my point clear to you. Evil comes in many shapes but mostly, what makes a certain object, or act, evil or demonic is the intention behind it. When we put Santa Claus first in our holiday seasons, that doesn't make Santa Claus evil, it makes us stow away from God's love.

there's one left.... it's the Halloween.... is it right to wear dress of a Bloody Demonic Horror, during Halloween? if he who has the best frightening Satanic dress to wear, is the winner? is it also a sin against the 1st commandment of God? i remember before the Roman Catholic Priest by-passed in the center of the group of celebrating horror.... the priest just smile and understand the situation and act naturally.... that priest didn't scare or frightened after all....

I can see the point of view of the person who said that asking for or expecting a 'sign' is an act of faithlessness. On the other hand, it is a very human trait to decide between two options by using either an overtly random method, like a coin toss, or by something which is less obviously random. My father used to take us children on 'Penny Walks'. Every time we came to a place where there was a choice of a way to follow, we would toss a coin. Sometimes there was a disagreement or doubt that the way chosen was actually the one we wanted and the single coin toss was turned into a 'best of three'. Even then, there were occasions when we ignored our own rules because one way was definitely preferable to the other. 'Signs from God' are really the same sort of thing. The decision is really there all the time in our subconscious. It just takes a particular event or combination of events (which sometimes seem scarily coincidental) to bring that subconscious decision to our realisation. Don't forget that God 'knows our innermost thoughts' and 'speaks in a still, small voice' which, very often, we don't listen to because we are so busy trying to make a conscious decision. 'Signs' therefore, are both 'nonsense' and a natural, human method of making contact with the subconscious part of us which contains our real wisdom.

But I got to admit that sometimes, the coincidences that take place can be very convincing!

Yes, they certainly are ... but wonder to yourself WHO is doing the convincing! Every day we are bombarded with tens of thousands of 'experiences' through all of our senses. We reject most of them as unimportant but both our conscious and subconscious minds are at work here, deciding what is important and what should be ignored. How many red cars did you see yesterday? Can't remember? No, nor can I but if I was LOOKING for a red car, I might be able to tell you.

Ah so we're saying here that there should be more of looking-inside, and listening and tuning in to that voice, instead of hovering about looking for signs which probably never mean anything at all.

When we have a dilemma, decision or a choice, there is nothing wrong with praying for direction or wisdom to make the right choice. Actually God invites us to ask for his help. Didn't Jesus say that if we ask we will receive? We should also search the Scriptures to see what God directs us to do in life. It was written to give us instruction.

Your response came in perfect timing. Once again, I am facing a tough time in my life that it's so hard to be grateful about anything. I try but it doesn't feel sincere. But, I still try. I hope God answers my prayers. I have been stuck in this situation for almost 5 years now.

It is never wrong to ask for help, or a sign, but will you recognize it when you see it when you see it? The important thing to remember is after you have prayed about a matter work in harmony with your prayers. Don't expect God to do all the work.

I'll be sure to put this in mind, savak. When it comes to asking for signs though, most often I recognize the sign because I ask for it specifically. I don't deny though that there may have been many other signs and messages that God had for me but I was too distracted to notice them.

I do ask God for signs sometimes because it means i'm communicating with HIm and trusting HIm on what to do. I rely on HIm in all decisions that i make because only HIM knows what's best for me. God can give signs through dreams or even just the feeling of calmness after praying is a sign of what one must do. However, one must be careful as it can be used by the devil to deceive a person especially if that person's faith is not that strong. Some people misunderstands the asking of the sign because they're doing it in the wrong way. Thus it is an act of faithlessness.

It's not really easy to distinguish whether it's God's voice or some other's voice. But one thing for sure is that, God will never contradict His own commandments. So if something goes against His commandments, surely that is not His will. I also heard a priest's sermon saying that sometimes, the devil even uses God's own words to deceive us. Take for example, the temptation of Jesus. But Jesus knew that they were Satan's works and he was able to resist them.

A true Christian will know. One that will bring you closer to God no matter how difficult it may look from a human perception is always Gods will. If one is reading God's words then one can stay strong and be able to know.

I have probably asked Him for a sign before to help me make a choice.. but mostly I just ask HIm to help me to know what to do.. to guide me. etc.. then I seek him in quiet moments so I will be enabled to discern His answer and/or voice when I 'hear' it..

I think that if you really don't know what to do, it's okay to ask for a sign. Throughout the Old Testament, people asked for signs from God and received them. However, I do think that we tend to fool ourselves and say we don't know what to do when we know what to do and just don't want to do it. I have done that myself and God pointed that out to me. If you truly do not know what is the right or best thing to do, ask Him. If you don't get an answer, by all means, ask for a sign. He is a good God and He wants to help us, so don't be afraid to approach Him in any way you need to.

I guess I have been in a similar situation where I was consciously or unconsciously asking for any hints from some unknown yet powerful Being to guide me in doing something that I am not sure of. Then again, I can't really recall the last time that I have made such a request. What I do get to do however is to recognize good things that do happen to me and give the credit to that Almighty mover for getting me into that kind of fortunate scenario. (^_^") When I get into a difficult situation, I always think that I can over come the predicament as I wouldn't be there in the first place if I was not capable.

Need not worry much on what term I get to use. I am still referring to the same Being. I'm just conaiderate to His many names in other beliefs and/or religion. One thing about waiting for hints or signs, we don't easily recognize them or maybe there isn't any at all. With that, we stall with whatever it is that we were suppose to accomplish in the first place. Of course we can interpret and misinterpret things, even those that aren't even related to our current situation and yet we sometime take them to whatever meaning we can derive from them. (^_^") That's why when one has great faith, one just believes and continue without hesitation, but with determination.

You can always just say God, ratyz. After all, that's the reason why I placed this discussion in this interest.Unless we don't have the same "person" in mind. Anyway, yes you are correct in that we should always live with a grateful heart and recognize the blessings even in the midst of every difficulty. It is not easy but it is very noble.

Do you think asking God for signs make us faithless? I think not. Well, it can also be true. But if you really have no clue on what path to take, I think asking for signs can be normal and okay. Just believe in God and trust in Him. That's what matters. Well, there are also cases like, we keep on asking for signs but then when the sign appears, we still don't pursue on what we have to do. It's just timing and confidence that you can make it through. With the help of the Lord.

That is so true! There had been many times that I asked God for a certain sign to appear, specific in color, or appearance of that sign and when it does appear, I still am not convinced and came to ask for another sign, and another until the sign in favor of what I wanted comes! It's crazy I know.

Haha. I believe we can be too paranoid at times we keep on asking God for signs when in fact we really see the signs itself. we just keep on asking. i have been like that most of the time i keep on asking for signs on whether to go on for a date with someone, will i have to attend to that occasion or should i pursue the job. things like that. i just hope for signs but then i find it hard sometimes what to do when i know what to do.

There are two way that will differentiate that when we ask for a sign is an act of faithlessness or now. 1. At church this week our reading is based on Thomas refuse to believe Jesus is alive until he see and touch him. So Thomas is asking for a sign then he will believe. If we ask God for a sign so we can believe in His existence, it is an act of faithlessness. That si what many free thinker and scientist do. They refuse to believe in God because they cannot see any sign of His existence. Because of this, even if they receive a sign, they still refuse to believe it and try to explain it by science or whatever metrology they had. 2. When we in trouble, we always pray. And many of us ask God for a sign to help us get through the tough time. That is okay. Because without God sign many of us will unable to face through the though time. So if we ask for a sign from God to help us through a though time, it is okay. But not when we ask for a sign so we can believe in His existence.

I learned a lot from this. Thanks. I guess my case is just like the number 2. When I doubt that He exists, I just try to remember the many times that I felt His presence and interventions in my life and then I stop doubting.

I dont think God will give you the answer. He already knows what you will choose, so why say yeah, go this way. Your life he alreayd knows. He already knows everything you will do, so he wants you to figure that out. Right or wrong the choice is yours. I have asked for signs, mainly with the fertility stuff were going through. Am I pregnant? Give me a sign if I should test, etc. I went in for a test and all these positive signs were there. Or were they signs? I wasnt pregnant. Maybe I was reading into to much. So you could ask for a sign, but what if it isnt a sign? What if your just reading into much into it? Gow will be with you in everything you do. Just trust him to be with you in making your decesions, but dont expect him to answer the question for you.

I think that is exactly the point of having faith. God gave us wisdom to make our choices, the Bible as our guide, and then lift everything up to Him. This had me feeling really silly over my dilemma, when in fact, God will always be there for me whatever my choice would be. Thanks for the repsonse.

I don't remember asking God for signs when I need to decide on something. But I do recognize divine intervention. I always act on impulse. I rarely think of consequences, really. When I feel something that is strong enough to decide,i do it. right there and then. You can never be halfhearted in two things. One will always weigh more than the other. When you need to decide on something, just pray, not for the signs, but for the wisdom to decide. After the prayer, listen to your heart. It knows exactly what to do. That inner voice inside you is God's whisper. Godspeed on your decision making.

I believe that asking God is fine. Especially if you do it in a sincere and deep prayers. God also send the Holy Ghost to prompt us through a small voice trying to call our attention each time we need direction and guidance. All we have to do is to listen to the voice and to always choose the right. If your are confused then you have to lift up your burden and doubt to him so that you will always end up with right decision. For whatever is the result of that decision you will have never regret since you ask God's help and that's the best solution.God bless.
